I could use some advice on what to put into a gift basket for her. Anyone in the food industry, please advise if you have a moment: what little tools did you find most handy at work but didn’t get provided for you? I already have gel insoles, epsom salt foot soak, and a counter-scraper. A best friend of mine just dropped big news on me - she left her job in big tech to be a line cook in an Italian restaurant. I was shocked, but I’m thrilled for her! She’s always talked about this, but never felt like she could take the plunge into a whole new career. She loves to cook, but has no official training, so she’s starting as a line cook and looking a culinary programs. She can walk to work now and doesn’t have to work at all once she steps put the door! I realize this will probably die in usersub, but I figure it’s worth a shot to help get her off to a great start. Whoever reads this, I hope you have a great day and fuck nazis. (Not literally)

Users burn you out. People still act like it's 1980 and a computer is a newfangled luxury, not the core of their job.

Honestly, get a 3 month subscription to freshly or something. Most cooks don’t feel like cooking at home or doing dishes after work.

Oh wow I never would have thought of that! Thank you!

I’ve been a cook for 15 years. The last thing I want to do when I get home is cook. And that ends w/ fast food and deli sandwiches.

Oh wow ok I’m glad you said that! I’ll put something in so she can have some nice food when she gets home.

I did this. Not big tech, but Management level IT. It's been 7 years. 7 very, underpaid, overworked, and overhappy years.

Yeah.. that seems like a bad move.. We know that the food service is low margin and disappearing (The pandemic accelerates and by the next

If she has her own knife, get her a diamond steel hone. I use my 20$ one weekly. Have her chef teach her how to use it (make sure she knows

It's diamond - they're abrasive, and not like normal steels).

I'm the meat chef in my kitchen. Love my tongs, click'em every so often to make sure they work

That is so cool! Thank so much for commenting! I’ve only been lucky enough to talk to chefs a few times. :D I never want to bother them.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Np...most kitchens don't give them out and most cooks are crusty af and don't want to use them

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol “crusty af” I love it. Roger that.

People who use words like big tech believe in baseless election fraud

Not to worry my friend, I do not believe in baseless election fraud.

They said "fuck nazis" at the end, so I guess it evens out

Ask op who the nazis are

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to think they were anyone who officially associated with or sympathized with nazis in any way, now I wonder if it’s everyone who

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

stormed the capital as well and anyone who sympathized with them. It’s crazy to even have to think about this, but we have to!
