I'm an oldie. The Muppet Show has been on TV since I was a little kid, and I remember watching the very first episode. I have seen every episode, plus seeing many of them in syndication, and when it started streaming on platforms online, I watched them all again.
It took me quite some time to resolve Kermit being on both Sesame Street and the Muppet Show. I finally settled into Kermit living on Sesame Street and Working as the MC of the Muppet Show, a major thinking achievement for a 4 year old IMO.
Jim Henson, Dolly Parton, Betty White, Bob Ross, Steve Irwin, Fred Rogers, Jane Goodall, George Carlin, Flip Wilson, Gloria Steinem, Carl Sagan...
We still have David Attenborough, LeVar Burton, Weird Al, Keanu Reeves, Josh Johnson, Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson -- except for Johnson, they're all getting old. We need to openly celebrate these forces of good, life, and intelligence (also, can anyone name living women, please?). We need new ones, not influencers, and what am I doing with my life?
The majority of the Muppets were not for me. To each their own, but I was more annoyed than entertained. Gonzo and Oscar were 2 i enjoyed as a kid, but the others I never came to enjoy. And Miss Piggy is downright awful, one the the most popular characters for being abusive and toxic. To each their own, but the muppets for me was like 10% entertaining, 90% can we watch something else.

I have always loved the Muppets. Watched Sesame Street from birth. Saw the Muppet show premiere with my family. All the movies. Rainbow Connection became my theme song and Jim was my hero. I cried when he passed. That said, I ... didn't love The Muppets reboot movies. The Walter character was literally out of place. And like Roger Rabbit has completely disappeared from his own creation. And there is No Such Thing as "evil Muppets" I.e. Moopets. Disney never wanted "the Muppets". They wanted>
a new line of spokes-characters that they could shill with. Jim was supposed to become what John Lassiter became. The head of Creative at Disney. Jim was very protective of the Muppets and was going to loan some of them to Disney with heavy caveats. I am so glad the Muppet Show is coming back. I hope the new performers know how to keep the characters true to themselves. Rant over. My back hurts.
Say what you will about Seth Rogan, but I am grateful he understood what The Muppet Show is well-enough to make one incredible special; which, hopefully, becomes a full series!
And if a muppeteer does something horrible, they aren't faced with the sadistic choice of A) booting their ass and potentially destroying the franchise in the process or B) circling around and protecting them to save the work, becoming an accomplice to their transgressions in the process. Kermit is irreplaceable, but the hand up inside him not as much.
