I am sure Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham will be thrilled

No curry in the curry blend? What a peasant

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

curry is actually a mix of several spices

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was not aware of that...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like it

have fun with the asafoetida. You really should not put it in a mix at ALL. You need to keep that shit on lock in glass air-tight.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Unless it's cooked, asafoetida smells like rank ass. It's great when it's tempered, but the raw stuff...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The spice extends life. The spice expands consciousness. The spice is vital for space travel. *techno beat*

11 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

The spice must flow (I keep meaning to do a picture of that with a chili for my kitchen)

shai hulud

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where can I find a picture of a shai hulud jalapeno hybrid?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had to look this up and now I fear I'm losing my memory. +1

"I said, colt 45 and two zigzag zags..."

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this also available in SI mass Units? I've got no bloody clue what 'tsp' means.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remove all the salt and it would be a good chart. That way you don't get a shit ton of salt if you like thing spicy.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's with the lines separating spices in each recipe?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those separate the actual recipes. Some start in the middle of a row and move from one line to another. See 'continued' at the end of some.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That makes so much more sense. i couldn't understand some of the choices being made at all. lol

you're under appreciated.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"lemon pepper" pepper plus lemon. Wow. The secret is out.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never put salt in seasoning blends. Add salt by itself, always to taste. Its too important of a variable, you need total control.

11 years ago | Likes 242 Dislikes 5

You are 1000000% correct

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Holy shit this, seriously thats why "salt to taste" is a thing

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Definitely. Especially because salt often needs to be added as different points during the process than the spices.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see your point, it's valid. But to each their own: after I started putting just a little salt into my blends, my total salt usage halved.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So is this a good chart? Or should I take it with a grain of salt...?

11 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

No, the point is to take it without the salt! Duh!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Haha you make a good point and a great pun at the same time. Upvote.

Then it's kinda pointless in the blend but go ahead and do things twice if you want.

no. im assuming you want to control salt. thats easiest if you add it on its own.

We eat far too much salt. I've had to reduce it in my diet, and now I can taste it in all the commercial food. In everything. In _bread_.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

I never had to reduce it in my own diet, but lived with people who did. After low-salt diets, regular chips are HELLA salty. And soups.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Reading this made my lips hurt.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lays has a Lightly Salted potato chip, and you can actually taste the potatoes. Now Great Value has them too, and they're even less salty.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just don't use canned soups. For "cream of" soup for recipes its really yesycto make a white sauce with butter and flour, a little milk.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then add whatever the cream was of: mushrooms, celery, onion, whatever.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This chart is a fucking mess

Was wondering who puts cayenne into an Italian spice blend

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can I recommend the addition of 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to the Chili and Taco seasoning blends?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You definitely can. A tiny bit of sweetness really makes it. An ex-housemate used to just put sugar in xD I think cinnamon is better though

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's not Indian "sweet" spice. There is nothing sweet about it. It's another version of Garam Masala. Get you spice name straight Anajali.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I didn't realize the writer was Indian until I read your comment. So much head shaking. Why the eff would you add HING to something SWEET.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ugh my thoughts exactly!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

keeping reposts spicy since last FP visit

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Coriander tastes like soap to about 1/6 people (the proportion depends on race) so you really shouldn't put it in stuff without checking 1/3

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I kinda like soap taste though

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

with the people who are going to eat the food. I am one of these so I feel quite strongly about this :) it's fine if it's on top and 2/3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't have thyme for this!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear, put thyme in my pumpkin spiced latte.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

"Zest from 3 lemons" You ever tried to get zest? Shit is a pain in the ass. I'll just buy Lemon Pepper from the grocery store.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Microplane zester. $10 at any kitchen store. Easy as grating cheese.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Easier, I think.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well damn. I need to find one of them.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously???, a narrow gauge cheese grater and 30 seconds per lemon, and it is fresh with all the oils intact.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

yeah, not rocket science lol

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"cumin" hehehe.

I wouldn't call it better design because it's ugly, but at least it's easier to see where one thing ends and the other begins.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But what's YOUR blend of herbs and spices, Colonel? Answer me that!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 Tbls of paprika, 1 tsp of onion salt, celery salt, rubbed sage, garlic powder, ground allspice, ground oregano, chili powder 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 (1 tsp still) black pepper, basil leaves (crushed), marjoram leaves (crushed). A touch of Soylent Green if you're feeling adventurous.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So I guess I have to comment to ever find this again. God the original is horrendous! Thanks for this.
