Having the characters break the 4th wall to talk about it would be stupid. As is this tendency to call it "incel bullshit" any time male authors write women talking about their sexuality.

That's the thing, there are multiple instances where characters talk about it in a very meta-commentary way and it's stupid every time. Here we have Geoff Johns turning her into a weepy mess, explaining to Superman how she needs her "hole filled".
If I wanted to I could easily find another couple examples of writers having characters directly address the boob window rather than just let it be and I don't even have that many Power Girl stories in my collection.

They admit that the drawers wanted to do sexy characters, in universe it makes little sense to have a heroine dressed like that. They aren't denying the real world intentions, just explaining that those characters make less and less sense within universe. Like why wpuld a moder heroine dress like that? You can't just say that in universe she wanted to be sexy.

Why can't you? Why can't she canonically decide she wants to fight crime, and be hot at the same time? That's a way better justification for her sexualization that all the falling all over themselves the writers did to justify a boob window that, apparently, wasn't even in Power Girl's initial costume.

Oh I agree to that, im just talking that that explanation will cause a lot more trouble and indignation that the other explanations. Everyone knows that superheroes are sexy, but to actually put that as the main reason for their suit IN universe is less believable. You have characters like this one that it doesn't really matter if they wear any kind of suit or not, since she is bulletproof and all, but many other heroes aren't and you need a better explanation for why would they wear latex...

Superman and super/powergirl have no real need for a costume to begin with. They're invincible on Earth, their skin is the ultimate barrier already, the costume doesn't add anything protective in-universe right?

Oh, yeah i agree, just look at Dr Manhattan, he only wears the speedo. But they aren't the only heroes that wear skintight latex, and many of those have human level resistance. I'm not saying that just having hot heroes isn't reason enough, but I also understand that if you want to tell a more serious or "realistic" comic story, sometimes you have to give in-universe reasons for some of the costumes. For example in MHA you have a character who's skin is unbreakable a goes barechested.

Yeah, most of the time, people that enjoy comics don't usually care unless it actually matters in the story. Most of the people complaining usually don't really read or like comics or have taken their fanatism to extreme ideas.
