I was rather disappointed when this was advertised as a sci-fi movie not a horror. Like when they pitched kick-ass as a comedy. They got all the funny bits and put it into the trailer. The rest of the movie was...not bad...but not that.
I'm reasonably confident that as I've never seen or experienced anything even remotely paranormal that the Event Horizion would just be a regular starship to me. No ghosts or weird things would bother me. I'd happily take my allegedly-haunted starship and explore the galaxy. And as an added bonus nobody else would want to come along.
I kept seeing people saying Pandorum was a good update to this kind of movie, and I would largely agree, if only they'd cut the silly kung fu movie shit where random fuckers are flipping and slicing and shit.
So, as someone who's living under a rock when it comes to (what I assume is Horror), can anyone be kind enough to give me the background here, so I understand wtf ?
Event Horizon. Film from the late nineteen hundreds. In case you want to watch, prepare to shit your pants. To me, most good horror movies are "yeah, it was okay" to me. This one stayed in my head for a long time.
There was a true director's cut with all kinds of additional footage. Unfortunately, the only copy got ruined in storage because it was in an old salt mine and bad stuff happened.
You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up on Lewis and Clark and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Inferis and I show you we won't need eyes to see.
Incredible horror movie. The characters in it act and react in a believable way. Also I still believe they traveled through the warp and entered the chaos realm haha.
There's a pretty good prequel comic that came out late last year and early this year. Check it out if you want. It's called Event Horizon: Dark Descent, you can read it here if you want. https://readallcomics.com/category/event-horizon-dark-descent/
First time I saw this movie was in a transient hotel and I couldn't get off the bed to go pee without crunching roaches. The only thing on TV was whatever the night clerk was playing at his desk. Horror movies never get to me but jesus goddamn this movie will mess with your soul
The one referenced in this post, the post above. This post of which we are all discussing in this thread about discussing the movie which is referenced in this post.
The first ship had no life vests, the first car no seatbelts, the first plane no parachutes. New modes of transportation rarely start out as safe, they're only gradually made safer when corpses start to mount.

Could be worse... could be this:
Eddyrock
Hey, it can only get better from here right?
Cranbananarama
I know what ship it is, but why does it look like the Nirvana baby here?
davesaint01930
Event horizon was shit. I've tried to watch it over a dozen times, puts me to sleep about 30 mins in. Watching paint dry is more interesting.

Yeah, think I'd rather just go ahead and space myself and get it over with.

The guy that was spaced was one of the ones that survived.

Pandorum was so fucked man, a pleasant surprise but so much gore.

Gotta be careful when you make a FTL drive sometimes they go to literal hell and bring back evil
kriswinters
Without the light of Chaos, the universe would stagnate and collapse. Only through this struggle, can any advancement occur.

First encounter with extra terrestrial being and it had to be Slaanesh.
Thanks Obama

I was told this was a great Sci-fi movie about a cool space ship.
it was not.
I was not prepared going in for a horror movie.
lezgetfukkinreal
I had a friend who said the same thing, I was about 12, and thought it was pretty cool at first...

"The late nineteen hundreds" .... as an almost boomer i hate you.

I'm early Gen-X, so according to that festering corpse that once was buzzfeed, I don't even exist.
Centroid
One of my favorite sub genres is “Sam Neil has a bad time.”
defrostedtauntaun
All he wanted was to see Montana...
reichstein
Kinda seems like he was into it by the end.
Centroid
Hey, if you can’t get out of it, get into it.

Addition to the sub-genre: He had a bad day on a sub. "I would like to have seen Montana... "
SqueezitTheClown
This and In the Mouth of Madness absolutely batter the poor guy.

And Possession

An Aussie, a Kiwi, and a Toupee walk into a yacht . . .

the next one:

I don't know what this ship is, would you explain?
FreePalestineAndTheWorldFromIsrael
The USG Ishimura from Dead Space. A video game that's heavily inspired by Event Horizon and Alien.
Yellowchopsticks
I mean, what's the alternative? Staying on Earth? That's even worse.
zeacorzeppelin10
I thought this movie was scarier, its creepy, but when I found out the studio ruined the movie, I bet it could have been way scarier
RARusk

marsilies
Old salt mines are actually great for storing film because it's cool and has dry air. However, in this instance it's claimed the film had deteriorated. https://lostmediawiki.com/Event_Horizon_(partially_lost_unreleased_130-minute_cut_of_sci-fi_horror_film;_1997)

Bad stuff? Like with evil extra-universal entities and such? That kind of bad stuff?

tigerliketoightness
That is very cool, thanks for sharing 🙂
FreePalestineAndTheWorldFromIsrael
Havent read it, but would it make for a good movie/tv series?
Karma1970
No it's a short story, perfect in comic form.
therealSuheir
the sequal is also pretty good its called warhammer 40k
Whatdoyousaytoanicecupoftea
There's like 15,000 years and a hell of a lot of *other stuff*

Hey, that's the background photo on my phone.
cyno01
While futile, this is probably the smartest decision anyones ever made in any horror movie ever.
FreePalestineAndTheWorldFromIsrael
Literally the best, most relateable line any character has ever said in any horror movie ever.
BarkingBlackbird
Seconded by nuking the site from orbit.
cyno01
Also the smartest option at the time, but things only got that bad cuz they had already ignored everything Ripley said.

Evi1Gav
The majority of planes ever made don't have parachutes.
ScourgeOfAges
It progresses faster if the corpses get animated by the forces of chaos and come harass you.
(is that a thing that can happen? It feels like a thing that can happen)
HappyTimeHollis
Yep, it's a thing that can happen. The poor Eisenstein....
L0rdinquisit0r
orks dont use one, because that would ruin the inflight entertainment

Oi…dis red git thinkz he’z gonna krump US!
Pyrokneticbeavr
The orks don't know they need one which means they don't need one lol
Centroid
It’s just good krumpin’
Unclescam
If it gets bad, they'll just have someone watch the screen door whole the rest put on blindfolds.
Mechwarrior719
Plus the Daemons in the warp know invading an Ork ship is considered a zoggin good time for the Orks. “Good enemies iz hard to find” and all that.
Remember, Orks think Tau are too boring to fight
Pyrokneticbeavr
My armor is paper. My shield is mediocrity. What is a sword? In the name of the greater good leave me alone :(

At least the Ishimura has loads of Peng laying around. You can never have enough Peng.

Terok Nor.
MrBlueSands
I'm pretty sure Tech Noir was a post-punk dance club, not a space ship. And why'd you spell it so weird?
Comet260
Cardassian space station.
MrBlueSands
The reality stars are getting into vintage post-punk? Okay, sure, that's a curiosity; but I still don't see what that has to do with spooky starships.
Comet260
The KARDASHIANS were dumped into a black hole. Mother nature did the rest.
SqueezitTheClown
The Elysium from Pandorum.
FreePalestineAndTheWorldFromIsrael
That movie is underrated
SqueezitTheClown
It’s probably rated pretty fairly to be honest. One of my favorite under-the-radar sci-fi flicks along with “Moon” and “Sunshine”.
FreePalestineAndTheWorldFromIsrael
I love Sunshine! The cynical horror version of Project Hail Mary.
