Never really understood Valentine's day, one day that you're supposed to treat your significant other really good. Shouldn't you be doing that everyday with your partner to begin with? I've never had a significant other and im 54 now.

Two, but you can write them as one, and people will know what it means. Compound words are bullshit. Once had a book try to tell me that "peanut butter" was a single word despite having a space in it.

The idea with valentines is that you go above and beyond for your partner. To a level you can't (and aren't expected to) sustain year-round.
At least that's how I understand it.
