I think he is saying that god abandoned us, no mater the faith, and as such all of man's churches are abandoned.
The word church doesn't mean a building, it means a group of people
If that's how you interpret it then sure, i meant or more in a place of worship context, like when you goto church, synagogue or a mosque
I think the mormons call it a tabernacle
It is in fact the actual meaning of that word, a group of people who worship together
