for this build, I tried to portray what a veteran zeon pilot might paint his personal gundam if he had to fight a lot in the desert.
the lense is hand painted, and the decals are 1/72nd scale Afrika Korps waterslides from Authentic Decals. I kept markings on the gundam to a minimum.
the camo is two part, hard-edged desert camouflage, painted by hand with Polly's Color Sand acrylic and Model Masters Rust acrylic paint. I painted the sand beige first, then used yellow Hard-tak adhesive putty to mark where the MM rust would be painted.
After that, I did a black ink wash, a brown ink wash, and then drybrushed the entire figure with Citadel Eldar Flesh acrylic paint.
The machine gun was done with a three stage drybrush, starting with Citadel Leadbelcher, then Runefang Steel, then necron compound.
I armed him only with the machine gun, however the other mounting points are still usable in case I ever want to swap weapons.
The hands were done much the same way as the gun.
I forewent the camo pattern and decals on the backs of the hands because nothing really seemed to work well on such a small area.
The legs. Despite all the paint, great care was taken to preserve articulation in the model, for a given worth of articulate. The Dom Tropen is a little awkward to pose.
Another shot of the legs.
Rear armor skirt, with said unused hardpoints.
Front view, posed. The magazines were painted similarly to the hands and guns, but with less drybrushing, to represent them being brought out of a storage crate for use.
Front angled view. Kindly ignore the metal slug and the busou shinki in the background.
Closeup view, angled. The decals, although not specifically zeon, do fit the theme of the gundam very well - I used two balkreuz, and two emblems of the 164th Leichte division of the wehrmacht.
Closeup view, angled. This and the above picture show the maximum traverse range of the Dom Tropen's head, which is to say, not very impressive.
Rear view. Thanks for looking at this album.

dom tropen is 'well endowed' for sure.

Nice work! I especially like the effect on the lens. Something further you might consider is soot/carbon around the vents and jets?
BornOnBoard
derp. how'd I miss that? and I bought weathering powders for just that purpose. thanks man.
Ruhig
Any time! What company's weathering powders do you normally use?
BornOnBoard
I'm unashamedly a citadel whore, so I use forge world weathering powders, which I like very well. I used them in my metal slug build.

(Citadel is pretty great though, esp. their latest line.)
Ruhig
Interesting. Never tried theirs; mostly I've used AK and just ground up pastels.
BornOnBoard
yes. the new citadel paintline takes all the guesswork out of painting - it's very good. especially the metallics.
BornOnBoard
as for the weathering powder, it's gotten good reviews, but I got nothing to compare it to, sadly.
