I'm currently in Peru for the Interamerican Scout Moot and many stands at the markets in Cuzco sell semiprecious stones, among other things. I work for a science museum back in the States so I decided to buy all that caught my eye and made a little info-dump on snapchat that i also decided to share here. Enjoy.

Apparently either chem testing or observation, but that's why turquoise is so cheap. The price has been tanked by fakes like dyed magnesite.

Well, the other reason it's cheap is imported Chinese turquoise. Which is sometimes also fake.

It has small inclusions of pyrite, which AFAIK is one of the ways to tell between Sodalite and Lapis Lazuli
