It's fine, right? This is just scientists/woke leftists 'expanding' their fake news into other areas to scare you into... something or other, right? Because science is 'easily faked', right? Riiight?

I hope if things start to collapse it happens before any billionaires become trillionaires. Just once I want all those cunts to be denied what they want, and it would be a just punishment because they did this.

And while we're experiencing this horror show in real time, a BBC article I read today applauded his "madman theory."

The Republicans will claim that the democrats are using their weather magic again, because apparently while they are weak at strategy and organizing, they are all powerful weather mages who target red states out of spite

Meat allergy we need…
FelonyRaptor
Ok show of hands! Who DID NOT think USA was gonna destroy the climate and the livable pretty much by itself, just to own the libs?
LespritDeLescalier22
As a species, we are incapable and unwilling to learn how to care for future generations we will never meet.
CaledonianSky
It's not even that anymore, the majority of the current generations are all going to pay the price for this. There are people playing the price right now.

So Patriarchy is bad for everyone? Who would have thought.
ArmedandOverclocked
To other countries please don't try to fill the void for the USA. Keep your data to yourselves. Americans won't learn otherwise.

Were "meat allergies" the only symptom, that tick could well be our salvation given the contributions that industrial animal husbandry has made to climate change.

Let's see here *Checks notes* Republicans have started trade wars resulting in less US crop exports, cut funding for rural hospitals, were/are rounding up immigrant farm workers, cut funding to NOAA, and is planning to sunset FEMA. Now while I know seeds go in soil, and have dabbled in planting, watering and harvesting crops, I am no farming expert. But, these moves sure seem like Republicans are attacking farmers in the USA. I sure hope people who eat food aren't affected. Spoiler: I eat food.
corndude101
They are attacking farms. My family in Nebraska sees it on the daily, yet they still vote R.
Last time I was there the number of private farms that had been bought by corporations was crazy.
They make it to where the farmers can’t make a living on their own, so they have to sell their farms.
Then as long as they listen to the rich billionaire they’re allowed to live on the farm and make the company profits.
Ask yourself: Why are corporations and billionaires buying farms and water sources?
ManByTechnicality
Having gone through the effort (years ago) of building a farm large enough to sustain my family, I can assure you that if you eat food or drink water, you should be very concerned about the climate changing and weather being unpredictable. An week long unpredicted 10degreeF shift in temperature can be the difference of having enough apples to last you 2 years, and barely getting enough for a few pies. A sustained increase of 5degreeF for a season means more than 2x the watering and pest control.
yoyo42
They eat food too. But they're OK with not doing that any more as long as the lefties can't either. Yes, it is idiotic, why do you ask?
MouseCheese1
As usual they will dismiss it as fake news or a liberal attack on theier politics. The deniers & conspiracy theorists the world over are as much to blame as the fossil fuel industry.
Ree81
Literally earlier today I blamed a climate denier for being partially responsible for the drownings. Reply: "Imagine how brainwashed you have to be to believe that. These guys can't think. They're absolutely fooled by leftist media"
Like, it's uncanny how *exactly the opposite of reality* they are. I think it's just random comments they've gotten hurled at them, and they internalize it as "this is a good swear to say at people".
guitarfourtysix

Meat allergy ticks is a self correcting problem of beef farms brought to you by Earth.

I live in northern Canada and the other day we actually got a warning of a potential FUCKING TORNADO in my area! Never been one in all my years….Fuck yeah Climate change!!!
ArdentSlacker
We were already at least half-fucked, but with Trump in office, we're basically locked into the worst possible timeline as long as he lives. Every republican in the US voted democratically to kill eight billion humans. There is nothing more evil than a supremacist.
Ree81
I've read climate news basically daily for 10 years now, and lemme tell ya...... ooooooooh it's a lot worse than that.
Imagine I'm an ethereal being with black diamons for eyes or sum lol. I don't have good news for you.
Khanamana324
Not just trump, Republicans as a whole.
CaledonianSky
This is also not just an American issue either. Most of the world is drifting towards authoritarianism, greed and Nihlism.
darkstarmc
The meat allergy tick seems like a good idea until you realize we'll just use medicating to keep people eating meat without consequences.

"nation's warmest year on record". US-centrism at its finest: THE PLANET'S warmest year on record.
freshthrowaway1138
You won't get Americans to act if you include the rest of the world. It can only be about them. Heck, I think one of the biggest issues is that we constantly talk about Global Warming in Celsius. Almost zero Americans understand or respect non-F temp scales. We need to put it into Fahrenheit if we want Americans to understand.
dudehiemer
*so far.
mouseasw
That's how records work, yes.
SlyeFox
To be fair, the UK's warmest year to date was in 2022.
PowerPedant
How is this relevant? And additionally, quite my point: Stop looking at arbitrary regions of the world, that's misleading. Globally, it was 2024: https://wmo.int/news/media-centre/wmo-confirms-2024-warmest-year-record-about-155degc-above-pre-industrial-level

i mean it is a headline to an article written by an american government organization, likely to get the attention of americans, so america-centrism could be excused. it's just badly cropped into the middle of other headlines that are not all america-focussed

BarnegatLight
Hopefully the meat allergy thing will decrease the amount of animals in the food chain, giving us a little win there.
Ree81
Sorry BarnegatLight, the correct answer was "Markets will simply adapt and sell the meat to richer people!".
Imalwaysready
Look at the floods in Texas. 6 months worth of rain in less than 6 hours. These events are becoming increasingly common, and people are still ignoring it and acting like each one is a fluke rather than part of a pattern.
Hatsodoom
Eventually the planet will kill us all. At that point it'll slowly recover.
Ree81
I actually agree. It just seems that this is it. This is what did us in, just plain ol' ignorance and in-group behavior.
It's so sad. We could've had it all, but nah, "I hate those people more than I want a future".

Earth’s immune system is doing its job. We are the parasites. Soon it will all be clean.

This is such a dumb, edgelord take. For a start, the majority of animals will be equally as fucked as humans.
LeftRightThere
Ah, my bad. I forgot that when animals gets sick the body protects the good stuff and only attacks the bad stuff. Wait, no it doesn’t. Immune systems raise their temperature and kill the bad and sometimes the good get sacrificed.
Shaodyn
It's weird to me that climate skepticism is still a thing. The signs are all around us. Refusing to believe what's happening is like standing around with your eyes closed and your fingers in your ears shouting "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"
Ree81
Haha yeah. It's sad how pathetic they are. Literally earlier today someone wrote to me about this image: "As if anything of that is happening".
Shaodyn
We're dealing with people who could be standing on train tracks, listening to a train barreling toward them, and still insist that moving is completely unnecessary because nothing is going to happen.
DrunkenMarineBiologist
Well, you see, people are very good at ignoring anything that challenges their current worldview. Especially if those people are Americans
Shaodyn
None are more blind than those who refuse to see.

I fear that the people in power know it’s as bad as it seems, but rather than make effort to counteract the change, they are taking action to massively increase their own personal resources to protect themselves for their lasting lifetime. The Big Beautiful Bill!

Wasn't this post of the plot to 'don't look up'?
Pokegeologist
Science has been aware of how human influenced global warming works since the late 1800s, when coal was industry's primary fuel. Modern science has known we were running out of time since the 70s. Any serious action has been surpressed and every scientist raising an alarm has been treated like Chicken Little the whole time.
ilikepot8os
To paraphrase an amazingly observant tweet "Aint nobody trying to fix anything in America. We're all just trying to get rich enough the problems don't effect us"
Icommentandpostmypets
There is also a group of idiots that follow TESCREAL. They think if they pour all our resources into AI and tech, at the detriment of current life, that they will somehow "ascend" our race before it collapses. Many of the major tech assholes subscribe to it. Musk, Altman, Thiel to name a few.
JohnSmithterms
Yeah i did a physics degree about 15 years ago (after 10 years as a software engineer) . We knew back then what to do and we are actually making progress. Its just that the progress is still too slow. We could still geoengineer our way out of it today. Whether we can tomorrow is another question i do not know. Maybe the feedback loop of melting the permafrost releasing methane will be a human ending cataclysm. Maybe its the Atlantic meridional failing. I dunno. Lets not find out . Fuck trump.
corndude101
Oh they know what they’re doing. I believe near me some billionaire just bought one of the only fresh water resources from the state.
Wonder why they’re doing that…

Just got to find the bunkers and take everything, then roast them alive.

Urrrrrgh. That was (kinda) my late dad's attitude. "I won't be here to see it"
What really annoys me is he had good ideas, he was smart, he could have made so much positive impact for us but he never followed through on the ideas or pointed out the benefits.
I have a chipper/shredder because he bought it. Once I realised how useful it was and what I could use the shreddings for, I put more through it in a year than he did in 15!
ROGUEdenied
Can we borrow the shredder for a some/most of our political dumbasses leading the U.S.?

You know already how this goes... [[ They'll claim this is all down to Biden policies (6 months into their regime, of course) and that their "cutting waste" had no impact, if anything it will "improve the service for everyone". In fact the reason this happened is that there are still DEI employees that the courts have stopped us firing. It's the court's fault, it's Biden's fault, it's DEI's fault. Trump has done nothing wrong ]]
MrsHowVeryDareYou
I mean. 5 years of Trump didn’t destroy the planet - it’s taken centuries to do that shit. He certainly isn’t helping (and is doing a spectacular job at destroying plenty of other things), but you really can’t just point the finger at anyone on this.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
I mean you are right but only to an extent, you have to remember lots of what Trump did was rolled back immediately by Biden, while in this term he's gone even more turbo-charged nutter mode and destroyed huge swathes of legislature that was intended to fight against climate change.
That said, it's obviously not all him, we are all pawns in the orphan crushing machine after all. It's only the rich who get to live a life of folly with no consequences.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
..but equally I fully accept that large and well funded lobbying groups will fuck with everything. Tobacco, oil, etc... basically anything that makes profit but is bad for society/planet/health can be offset by channelling millions of dollars into a politicians pocket. They aren't political, per se, just opportunist and uncaring.
AyatollahBahloni
This statement is even more terrifying if you replace "DEI" with the N-word. After all, that's what MAGA means when they use the abbreviation. It's a White Supremacist dog whistle, signaling their desire to go back to pre-Civil War days. I hate this timeline.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
I mean that's what it stand for. When Charlie "tiny face, tiny cock" Kirk openly says on a podcast that if he saw a DEI pilot he'd not board a plane, he's meaning black. There is no other way you can "tell" a "DEI hire" other than skin color, going by what is said by those using it as an excuse. Honestly I just wish they'd be open and say the word, dancing around it just shows what scared pussies they are.
OtterlyMagnificent
Black, or woman, or colored hair, or young...They use DEI as a placeholder for every slur they would say openly if they had any balls.
molotovity
Republicans will still blame “The Green New Deal” for any attempt to regulate industries causing climate change, the price of gas, and anything under the blanket of renewable energy. It never passed. It’s laws and regulations never enacted. They still want to blame it though…
TheHappyHermit
Conservatism has convinced people that all government spending is a bad thing. Then when these things happen, they're all pointing fingers.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
I mean ultimately we can blame those in power, but the people put them in power, and the lies and misinformation is swallowed by millions (billions) across the world. Sure, Trump and the like are symptoms, but it's people's stupidity and their ability to drop to bigotry and hate that is the real cause.
Ree81
[...R...................................................................................D.............REALITY]
This is how I view politics. Republicans are furthest away from reality, but the democrats are also pretty far away. Reality being that we literally have to reshape the global economy from a "consume as much as possible" one to "consume as much as needed and distribute resources fairly as we eliminate rich people altogether" one.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
As someone who is not American, I view American politics like this...
[REALITY....................................................................................................................D..............R...M..F]
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
D = DEM, R = GOP, M = MAGA, F = Fascism.
OtterlyMagnificent
You're close, but you've got the M and F swapped.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
Possibly, but to most people outside of the US, it's just the centre right, and the far right, fighting it out so they can pander to billionaires. There is no left in the US. Even someone like Sanders would be considered a centric politician in places like Europe. Yet he's viewed as being to the left of Stalin in the US.
spitfires2000
Western Europe may get a LOT colder if (when...) the AMOC stops. Glad I brought my spiked tires from Norway! (/s...)
Zahnradfee
And colder also means drier. :( We'll get the European steppe.
blarkk
The British isles are complaining about the heat. Wait until they start getting the Winters that are normal for that latitude.
aducksayswhat
Another aspect I wonder about is as much as AMOC moves heat from the tropics to NE Europe, will the tropics cook just a little bit more without that heat moving away (and the rest of the current bringing cooled water down south), will hurricanes have more energy from that hotter water.
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
So just for a heads up, AMOC adds but isn't the sole contributor. Previously we used to think it was, but in fact the air currents play more into the heating of that part of Northern Europe. Not that I am advocating that a breaking down of AMOC wouldn't affect the area, just that it's not as closely tied to the temp as we previously thought.
spitfires2000
What's driving the air current system? How is this system disturbed by climate change? Are the air currents following the same path as the AMOC? We need data, data, DATA! :-) STAT!
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
..and obviously, any reduction in AMOC is a bad thing, not for the planet, it's fine as it's seen extremes of heat and cold over billions of years. It's us that'll get f*cked by it.
mothmam
Us and countless species of other animals
YouMealyMouthedCrotchPheasant
Yeah, although that is standard practice if you look through time. The only fuckery here is that we are accelerating it at an exponential rate. Not that I am supporting the destruction of our current environment, but the truth is it will get "destroyed" at some point. Whether that be an asteroid, the Milankovitch cycles or something more terrestrial like tectonic movement.
