My kids have been back for 3 weeks and it still fucks up daily. November is the earliest they can go back........for now. I doubt they will.

It’s the 2020 equivalent of a snow day, good for the kids

Our school district switched to goole meet.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I personally prefer ghoul meat

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Zoom: Academy For Superheroes/Box office 12.5 million USD. Correlation?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. My son enjoyed his free day

6 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 0

So a platform that sucks ended up sucking? Wow.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Reynoldsburg, Ohio here. Same.... Kids freaked out because they thought they were in trouble... So shitty

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A few of my professors just went 'fuck this' and invited us to their personal discord servers, which means sometimes I see them playing WoW

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work with kids with autism and it was shutdown blocking telehealth sessions for pretty much all day.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Insert "Mr Burbs Excellent" gif here. MS Teams and Cisco Webex right now.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

School systems/cities relying on a free version of a paid service almost nobody heard of 5 months ago was always going to be a struggle

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No school systems are using the free version.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You would be surprised...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol.. can confirm

6 years ago | Likes 865 Dislikes 3

The only issue I had was that the teacher joined a different meeting and left all of the students in the room he was supposed to be in.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is one reason asynchronous distance learning should be more heavily considered.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By the time zoom figures it out, the schools will start going in a different direction. My kids teachers are stretched too thin.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was..it was typical

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s not canceled here on the west coast, but has been glitchy

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's cause everyone else east has already given up on it hours ago.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Microsoft Teams or even Cisco Webex will work out better if you can push the school towards it.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

My school actually uses Webex, and it even integrates pretty well with Canvas. And some professors still insist on using Zoom...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Webex devours internet bandwidth. I am having problems with kids staying connected when their siblings are also on it.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, I guess I didn't really think about the strain of multiple users using it on the same network. That sucks.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So far google meet has done well. But it doesn't have nearly as many features as the others.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the school already uses Office 365, then IIRC you get Teams with it.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

no you dont. You get teams now for free due to the pandemic for up to 1 year. But Teams is an additional cost to most 365 plans

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol zoom. It was shit before the pandemic! Suddenly everyone’s trying to use it. And it was Swiss cheesed with security holes to boot!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was slated for a 6 hour client call on Zoom today. No connection issues and we got out of there in 2 hours cuz clients are idiots.

6 years ago | Likes 136 Dislikes 3

Whoever thought that meeting was actually going to be 6 hours doesn't understand the point of meetings.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

in my experience most meetings are 5 minutes relevant information, 55 minutes of "when can I go back to work?"

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's remarkable, my experience with idiots is they'll sooner turn a 2hr call into a 6hr one than the reverse.

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Exactly what I was thinking

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We gave em the ol razzle dazzle "We'll need to explore options with our team and get back to you." That knocked 3 hours of agenda items off.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pfft. Clients who needs em?

6 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

No one needs clients, they just need the clients' money.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This job would be great if it wasn't for the customers.

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

That’s literally the only reason why I don’t want to be a teacher; a lot of parents are idiots & also don’t discipline their children.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who runs an etsy store the sheer level of dumb I get from clients is incredible

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I saw this online at another store for cheaper

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I know its a tad mean, but out of sheer curiosity. Whats the Top 5 of stupid things that annoys you the most? If you would like to share :=

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Generally I get "Hey can you make Halo Reach armor? Can I get it unpainted?". My store has 1 listing for armor. It lists such things as

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"Halo Reach" and the price, and "UNPAINTED Halo Reach" and the price.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The other one I get is "Can I get a discount?" No.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You mean you can't just ship it to me today? Her birthday party is tonight!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I could easily make this myself and the material is nowhere worth as much as what you're asking. I'll give you half the price.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I make armor, too. People seem to think I just have completed suits in their size lying around. /a/cAJjp

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ah, very nice. I'm the sound guy for a local sci-fi convention masquerade.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's like the imgur hug of death but on a national level

6 years ago | Likes 305 Dislikes 4

It's called DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Is there any reason to believe this was an attack? I thought it was just a standard capacity issue.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just to be clear, DDoS is just the name of the phenomenon. It doesn't have to be intentional or an attack.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Global*

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

World. Argentina here, outage as well

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Google Classroom here we didn't have any issues

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

my kids school is using teams. not much better, but eh.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the worst is that i guarantee their system is set up to effortlessly expand server space as they need it because.. 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

thats how every company does it these days. they just plain couldn't be arsed to expand servers in time.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was an internal issue that the engineering team identified fairly quickly to resolve...it wasn’t capacity. That’s all I can say though

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ill just trust you know more about it than I

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was fixed just as mine went on. She wasn't amused

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Zoom's massive recent success is because it has ever so slightly less friction in use than every competitor. It's not the best and lacks

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

a lot of integrations Teams or WebEx have, but it's the easiest for the dumbest people to use.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

As a systems admin, i practically guarantee you thats how it started. The moment 'zoom' became synonymous with 'WFH' is no small reason, too

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am a network guy... at a company that sells security and cloud VPN products. The last 6 months have been insanity.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh i bet. I dont do a ton of networking, but i did most of the ssl vpn work. Especially when it came to redesigning the backend messes

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That accrued over time, such as inconsistent LDAP integrations, etc.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How many MMORPG releases have we lived through with over loaded servers? And this was surprising?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

prof. got it working for the next class. whoopie

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

prof here too, "unfortunately" I didn't have any issued this morning. Held both my classes with zero issues. *shrug*

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have a class in 3 hours. I'm actual looking forward to it. First time back in college since 07.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congrats! Best of luck!!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep. Ours froze. Teacher dropped out, never returned. No email, no communication, no follow up. End of school for second grade.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are so many other video/voice chat programs. Is it Zoom or nothing for these schools?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Between Boomers in upper positions & teachers lacking in tech skills yes. Using free Skype let alone Teams or Webex wasn't even a thought.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly I'd rather even use Discord than Zoom.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Discord would start crashing under that strain. Plus I do not want a bunch of elementary kids and Karen teachers on Discord.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're using Microsoft Teams cause the university pays for it.

6 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Yup, same. Class is at 100+ people sometimes yet we never had any connection issues. It even has a raise a hand feature

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I’m loving Together Mode. It actually helps with meeting fatigue! At first I thought it was just a gimmick.
