My first foray into Scale

May 29, 2014 3:03 PM

My workbox, just after a fresh delivery of scales.

So I just started out weaving scales, having done chainmail for a while now.

First attempt at weaving.

Its not so hard, the silver/grey rings are there to remind me which are the top scales.

Prepping the next few sections.

I like to lay my work out, so I know how far I have left to go.

First attempt complete.

It was just an attempt at box scale [as in, a straight line across].

Damn, and I thought it was going to be about fishing lures.

I see scales but no bananas. I am confused by this.

There are certainly worse hobbies to have. And wearing full scale armor in public isn't as frowned upon as many other things.

You should get business cards made that say Scale Male

Do yourself a favor and don't attempt it using split-rings, as most places recommend. It's a pain in the ass!

Already noted, I am looking into getting a small ring welder at some point.

That would be a good idea. The main reason split-rings are suggested is due to the nature of the scales. Twisting one can easily (1/2)

re-open the rings and end up causing it to fall apart. Welding standard rings would solve that quite easily, :) (2/2)

I just need the money really. I have to ship from Canada to get the stuff, and it cost me £100 for that box at the top.

From Canada, I take it then you ordered from TRL? They're the only reliable source for scales I'm even aware of.
