Although some find this incredulous, it goes for all professions. Family and friends benefit from each other's life skills

I once had a landlord who decided I was their personal IT specialist. I'll just let your imagination figure out how that went mother f***** was still calling me years later after I had moved pretending we were friends to try and get free tech support

Turned out he was subletting to me against his own agreement. I was thrown out by the actual owner.

Some of my favorites: "hey, it'll take you less than an hour, right?" Or "Hey Owl, you're good with computers aren't you? Fix my Nana's phone!"

Often immediately followed with "I don't know what you did to her phone/computer/printer/fax machine but now it won't even work!"

Once did a favor for a friend and helped his grandma with her fax machine it wasn't plugged into a phone line. So after driving over there for 45 minutes I plugged her fax machine into the phone line and it worked. A day later I get a call from him telling me I broke his grandmother's fax machine and I owed him money. Several days later he went up there and found she immediately unplugged it again after I plugged it in and tried to apologize but I was done with the dude at that point.

I swear they can smell it on us, the other day a random cashier started dumping on me about her family life.

You know, I've been having these dreams where I'm wearing these sort of sun-god robes, and there are a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickes at me.

You should try smoking fat doinks and listening to Bolt Thrower

Why does everybody tell me that?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Lmfao that's so bad. People know what your time is worth (or at least have a rough guess) and just don't respect that. Nvm the fact that you guys went to school and paid god knows how much to earn that career. No, you should totally give me free sessions

My wife’s a therapist, and “oh you’re a therapist? hey, can I talk to you for a sec?” basically doesn’t happen; can’t remember it ever happening. But random stranger who has no idea she’s a therapist randomly telling her things you expect they usually keep private? *All the time.* I tell her it means she chose the right field. She’s usually somewhere between amused, flattered, and bewildered.

OR (and my therapist told me this) people look for kindness because they aren't giving it to themselves, and are isolated otherwise. They find someone who listens and it all kind of comes out. I (not a therapist) hear a lot of people's stories because maybe they can tell that I honestly want to hear them. Also, a lot of people get a chance to talk about something and it helps them realize they need to look to therapy, so I know some therapists are ok with this in moderation. (1/2)

I get your point, though. And it's reasonable to want to get away from work when you're not there, so I'm not knocking on therapists who are good but might want a break from other people's problems for a bit. I do IT work, and when someone wants my help I find it frustrating because I want a break from it as well. (2/2)
