Axon is better at handling data and police departments have fewer people who have access to the axon accounts, because its tied into so many other things like body cams for chain of custody - they cant be as fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants with the axon account or half the state's criminal convictions would be in trouble going forward

Yeah one thing to watch out for is that they might just replace the cameras with ones that are inconspicuous, probably integrated into normal looking fixtures. After all, they signed a contract for them in the first place so they clearly want the surveillance, the cancellation is likely not because of a change of heart but just because the public backlash was hard to deal with, so they'll be wanting to look for similar solutions that don't attract the same negative attention.

Yes but this is how to start it. And ALPR isnt in and of itself bad. Its the unlimited access, lack of audits, retention for ever, ect, that is bad. Axiom at least sells the client a server and all data stays on it. If we press hard for the safety features and audit trails /and get it passed as law/. TX out right making it not ok to work with flock is amazing

Yes but guess what, you dont need AI to do LPR. We need cops to not be brain dead. And laws to help reinforce that. So far every case of mistaken identity would have been solved by a cop just doing a hair more investigation. We need to punish the lazy cops, and that will be true with or with out AI

It is a slippery slope no matter how many guardrails you put on, someone will find a way to circumvent them to be used in illegal ways ( much less the government which is the actual danger)-
I understand that public security is a massive thing and that the past few decades have seen the world change tremendously but there has to be a better way without turning the country into a surveillance state.

Got caught on his own body cam. 90+ cases that he admitted to, and its believed there were a lot more. ALP done right is good. Did you know that police track you using ads on your phone? No warrant, no due process. Because you willingly shared your location with an app, game, website. Its the police that are the problem, and thinking of ways to get around the rules
