Problem is? From a military law stand point he is in the wrong. What he says is true and the right thing to say as a human being. But serving military, especially officers, have limitations on their right to speak publicly. Whether it be UCMJ for the yanks or the KO&Rs for Canada, you do not have the right to speak publicly in ways that sabotages the mission, criticizes the chain of command (incl civilian leadership) or is "prejudicial to good conduct or morale"

Imgur mobile app has an ad for US Army right below the post.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Incorrect.

America has complete final say over Israel.

Anybody that says anything different is trying to obfuscate American responsibility.

Israel would not survive without US support.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

US pays Israel billions Israel gives some millions back to bribe the people running the US so they control them.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The US pays for it's defense so Israel can have it's free college, healthcare etc.

AIPAC is still an American lobby. The Israel lobby, not the Israeli lobby. That is funded by MAGA billionares under the guise of various jewish advocacy organizations.

The point is, this settler colonial outpost is a mini version of America, and an extention of it's Empire in the region.

Similar to what South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Ukraine are but to a far lesser extent.

He is not wrong but this is something that you do not do in the military. You personal opinions like that are not something you air out to the general public, you keep it to yourself or a few like minded individuals. If you have an issue with policies or orders you go to your immediate superior an make your feelings know and if that does not work you move up the chain of command. Failing that you can take the option of going to JAG but if you lose there you lose big.

At what point does one bring this up? Is there ever a “good”
time?

The answer is the first best time to bring it up is when it happens. The second best time to bring it up is now. If he just keeps it to himself, then morally he’s complicit by silence and omission.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

That's something you don't do in the military unless not doing so is worse. It's really bad for good order and discipline, so if you want to keep your military healthy, you don't do it.

If, however, your military is already well sick, as evidenced by all the war criming and chaos, you might reasonably believe that calling it out is the way to go. The fact that it's something that is Just Not Done serves to accentuate how bad things must be.

And these are *officers* that are doing this.

3 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Fuck that. How about being a better organization and a better country that doesn't have so much dirty laundry to air out.

3 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Not when your conscience won't let you go on, you understand exactly what the consequences will be, and to sacrifice yourself. Like the Air Force Major who got arrested protesting in uniform at Congress. It's exactly the same thing as falling on a grenade to save your squad.

3 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's not a personal opinion if it's a verifiable fact.

3 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

What part of "He is not wrong" did you not understand? With all that we have seen it is very easy to make that conclusion and any sane person would but other people can just as easily say that Israel is fighting back after decades of hostility. The military cares nothing for your opinion unless it has something to do with the mission. You are not a person you are equipment, a line item on a spreadsheet. There are rules and going on social media and saying an "ally" are Nazis is not a good choice

He's right in his analysis but active duty military members aren't allowed to speak out about political topics, particularly officers that are that highly ranked. It's bad for morale, bad for unit discipline, and bad for trust. The military is supposed to take orders from the citizenry.

3 days ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 6

Yes, they can. They just cannot do it in an official capacity. So it all depends on where and how his posts were made.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, saying that the military is taking its orders from the people is definitely a stretch while Trump and the gang are misusing them as hard as they have been with the scarcest excuses to dodge congressional oversight.
His messaging could use some polish to match the delicacy of his position, but he's also supposed to be advocating for his men and against forcing them to commit war crimes.
It can be argued either way, but I think We The People need as many of him as we have in Trump's way.

The president isnt allowed to rape and kill children, or give $10B to a group of countries he claim are terroristic, or let roving bands of white supremacists murder and kidnap civilians at their leisure, or, and most importantly, shit themselves awake on TV. But here we are, so your "supposed to" is completely moot.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's this thing called civil resistance. It acknowledges that there are times when standing up for what is right sets you against the rule of law. Pointing out that a particular act of civil resistance constitutes a transgression of laws, rules, or societal norms is ... kinda unnecessary.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Exactly why it's important that he speak out about it not doing that.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yes, basically right.... except in this case, the US military is taking indirect orders from Tel-Aviv.... so.....

2 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

That doesn't matter. The US carries out military operations in support of allies all the time. Serving members are not allowed to question the chain of command. This is *potentially* an Article 134 under the UCMJ, it depends on how his commanding officer gauges the impact of his statements.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well, certainly, we can't allow things like accurate criticism of our government to interfere with the efficiency and morale of our child-bombing machine.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As an aside and speaking of "bad for trust", I think it's great for trust in our armed forces when they participate in war crimes and nobody speaks out about it or else they get fired.

Are you a junior ranks facing a deployment to the Iran theatre? For a junior ranker, they have no choice but to go there and do as they are told once there. If they go there already convinced that they are on the side of the bad guys, that is unquestionably bad for his morale and the morale of his unit. Issues of why the conflict exists are well above his or her pay grade. At most he can request orders in writing for specific actions and orders and he'd better be in the right when he does.

Military code states unlawful orders can and should be ignored

2 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

What unlawful orders is he ignoring by posting his that Israel is a death cult?

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

None.

Sadly as a veteran, the idea of what people think an illegal order is and the reality of what an illegal order is are night and day.

I definitely support the idea of expanding what constitutes an illegal order but right now the only potentially illegal orders given by the Trump administration are the orders to attack boats in the Caribbean.

And thats just a "maybe" because technically speaking, the president has the authority to designate terrorist organisations that pose a threat to 1/

2 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The lives of American citizens, and it makes no effort to define what a threat is, so it can be used to cover everything from potentially lethal drugs to actual jihadists trying to fly planes into things.

In order to prove those orders illegal you would have to take the federal government to court and prove that the president knowingly mislabeled a group.

Or you would have to work on an individual example, trace the intel that lead to that strike, and prove that the intel was faulty or 2/

Considering the long history of shady and horrific shit the US armed forces were involved in, and the general treatment of government whistleblowers, it seems like there was never a good time. But right now it's probably worse than ever.

3 days ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

Don't know why you're downvoted, the US has an abysmal history in its treatment of whistleblowers. Generally the best thing you can hope for is that they forget you after the fact, and that's not likely to happen.

3 days ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

We have taken on some shady right wingers that attack a lot of things it's very noticeable in usersub. They don't interact much just down vote anything they don't like politically or that disagrees with their whitewashing of history

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The average American get irrationally angry when you point out that America is not as great as they proclaim themselves to be. Their history is so warped, they point how Communists, Socialists, and terrorists have it worse without even realizing the American gov helped with overthrowing a lot of those same countries or continued to push for colonization.
