In Back to the Future II, the Cubs win the 2015 World Series. That sounded miraculous because the Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908. They haven't even made it to the Series since 1945, when they were given the Curse of the Billy Goat.

In 1945 the Cubs needed to win one more game to win the World Series—their opponents, the Detroit Tigers, needed three. Cubs fan William "Billy Goat" Sianis was asked to leave Wrigley Field because the odor of his pet goat, Murphy, was bothering other fans. Outraged, Sianis declared, "You are never going to win the World Series again because you insulted my goat." The Cubs went on to lose the 1945 World Series and have been haunted by the Curse of the Billy Goat ever since.
