Once upon a time they told me to "just focus" on one media.

Nice try, but my creativity will not be contained.

Specialize in the medium you enjoy the most but never stop trying new ones. Every time I try a new medium I learn new things I can draw from and adapt in the medium and style I prefer most.

Same. Also: my drawing ideas become sculpture...my building ideas become drawings and stories. Eventually/occasionally all media becomes ONE medium.

This is the creative flow I need to get back into.

It comes and goes, I've never really been able to sustain it as much as I like.

No artist can. When we think about famous artists we think of their entire body of work over their lifetime and assume it was done at some regular consistency which couldn't be further from the truth. Da Vinci would only add a few brushstrokes to a painting before leaving it alone for years to work on a different project that captivated his imagination.
