As someone who wears earplugs in noisy environments, I wholeheartedly support this!

Silent discos are pretty fun. There are two tracks playing red and blue. Not everyone has to listen to the same songs

So, you ask someone for a dance and if they're listening to the other channel, you both dance out of sync & finish at different times.

Dude with the squeaky shoes it is a SILENT disco...

It's that generic "squeaky shoes" sound clip that's everywhere

But it's an indoor place, why can't they listen to the music in the normal way?

It allows people to have a choice of what they listen to, it keeps sounding levels manageable, and if you want to chat with someone you aren't don't have to compete with the music. The only thing I found less than ideal is using headphones that had been on someone else's head (I'm a slight germaphobe)

Note: however funny a headphone party may be, just think of all the plastic wasted to produce and eventually throw away these gadgets. Not to mention the other materials.

They typically don't throw it away but reuse them at the next event.

Are you able to think not just one day ahead, but maybe more?
Hundreds of headphones thrown away just because they are outdated due to personal audio devices?!

Are you not able to think about other things besides raining on the parade? There's far more wasteful uses of resources going on constantly by massive corporations, and the headphones don't instantly expire, audio devices don't instantly outmode everything.

There's far worse places for you to go and advocate reducing, reusing and recycling. Leave the silent disco alone.

You are determined to be upset about this model. That's fine. The point if this experience is to allow people to come to a group event but still have some choice in how they experience it. If you want to go the path personal audio devices, sure. That's actually a great idea. Bring your own Bluetooth headphones and connect to the stream you want to listen to. I dig it.
Ultimately won't solve your issue. Eventually those become outdated and each person throws them away. So what is your solution?

Have you seen cinemas and theatres? Concert halls? Festivals? Why do you think those exist? Have you seen the video, how iditotic and anti-human the whole thing looks like? It's like a party for droids.
People come together to have fun, and it's because the shared experience, not because they've been separated. Also, I've only seen this kind of "we must be having SO MUCH FUN" energy before at cult-like church events, it looks pathetic and parhological in the same time.
