Semester at Sea the World

A Floating University

I'm an alumni of an awesome program that changed my whole life. They're always looking for good people to sign up and always in need of money. I don't really have money for them right now, but imgur has the kind of people and community that would love this experience. Our Cabins

Okay, so it isn't a 5 star cruise, but you get a little spot to call your own and you fill it up with pictures and memories as you travel... and you get very cozy in it when you are seasick.

Leap of Faith

It took a lot for me to leave the comfort of a party school with a job and an easy road to a degree, but it was worth it. I jumped 50 ft into a waterfall pool, and that was within a week of stepping on board.

Plus it's just cool

This was after the jump. I'm sitting in a hotspring waterfall hoping it will speed the healing process from the massive bruising when I landed that jump up there very badly.

Lifelong dreams fulfilled

Penguins are my favorite animals and I got to play with them. No zoo. No fake fenced in area. It was just a beach with people and penguins and joy.

There are some bad moments

There are struggles when you're traveling around foreign countries, language barriers being only the first hurdle. Every culture has it's own quirks and challenges.

But there are good moments too

Like seeing my first dog in months while hiking on the Great Wall of China. The owner let me play with him for a long while and I was so happy!

You meet great people

These were my closest friends on the trip. We came from all over the country, different schools and backgrounds. We spanned an entire decade in ages, and rarely all agreed. But we loved each other a lot.

But Mostly, you meet yourself.

This trip cost me everything. All the money I had saved up and then some. It cost me my comfortable college relationship when he decided I'd been gone too long. It shook me awake and out of the dreamy stupor of my suburban existence and forced me to face hard realities. It's easy to sit back and do nothing, but this program did a lot for me and if you think living on a ship and seeing the world sounds like a great way to spend a semester, I urge you to try it.
