I don’t like listening to MAGA lies

Rather be here than Facebook or shitter

I’d rather die than be a liberal. I’m a socialist.

Echo chambers still have differing opinions, you can sharpen your talking points while getting angry at folks just the same as talking with that one guy in your family!

Liberal about some things, conservative about some others. Mostly educated with a decent moral compass and can generally discern a piece of shit when I see one

You can thank usersub for that. Funnily enough, posts that are hateful, bigoted, demeaning, or pro nazi get downvoted into oblivion before they can get traction and make it to most viral.

Its just a weird little coincidence that all of those things are considered "right leaning" or "conservative"

IT IS. And I could be tagged liberal or leftist (but I'm from France, so not involved in USA politics). The problem of that is we didn't see the failure of Kamala Harris coming. We didn't see how Trump was winning. And we do not act enough against what is coming.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Every smart American over the age of 25 knew Harris would lose because Hillary Clinton lost against Trump. Unsheltered Americans know this country is sexist and racist.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like we're at a point politically where people can't stand anything but an echo chamber.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

That's it in a nutshell. The MAGAts come to places like imgur and complain about an echo chamber, but the reality is that when you come from an echo chamber you think of everything in that context. Just because you came from a place that readily accepts that the sky is pink with purple stripes as a "truth" doesn't make a group of people that are capable of using their own eyes an echo chamber of the "other side".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess that for most of us from Europe this just feels like a normal place

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Not so much an echo chamber as a place where the MAGA lies aren't simply accepted and instead get the light of facts shined on them.

2 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 13

I'm a leftist, the Republicans aren't conservative anymore, at least half of the democrates are corporate conservative.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

The truth has a liberal bias

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nobody is under any obligation to give their Nazi bullshit fair representation. They can representalick muh balls, Capitan.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not everyone who utterly despises Trump and everything he stands for is a liberal.

2 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 8

Indeed. A lot of us are leftists.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yep. There are plenty of never-Trumpers who are constitutional conservatives and conservatives in general who despise him on moral grounds as well as political grounds - and see the importance of maintaining healthy relationships with our allies globally.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

Then there are more actually politically left people than liberals.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The GOP has been looking for a Trump-style asshole to lead them for 50yrs

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People say it's an "echo chamber" - I disagree. Just because the users lean left, doesn't make it an echo chamber. Plenty of discussion to be had, while also rejecting fascism.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Discussion? I have seen 0 "discussions".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Spend more time in usersub comments then.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the discussion and "exchange of words" is definitely in the usersub. People don't massively upvote "discussion" they upvote, and thus gets put on the front page, what they perceive as correct.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ehh, don't focus so much on points.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im here and Im conservative. I dont see maga love, no president should be a demagogue

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Nah, imgur is just left leaning. Mainly perverts.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

What is it they say about accusations?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"Echo chamber" is a pejorative that people use to mean "I disagree politically with too many people here".

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

"echo chamber" isn't a pejorative, it is a description of a place where dissenting opinions and statements are silenced to keep the status quo on certain topics so that those who agree can feel supported, comforted, and safe.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Which is exactly what Imgur is

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

where dissenting opinions and statements are silenced

Echo chambers don't just silence dissent. They specifically silence dissent that tries to expose the faults/lies of the group's position.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I will agree that there is definitely some elements of an echo chamber, and these things if not realized can become very dangerous. Since it breeds an us vs them style of thinking. It's how we ended up in this set of circumstances in the US. Obviously it wasn't liberal echochambers lol. But being conscious of the hazards helps to prevent people from being ostracized from the community, and siding with a worse echochamber which breeds hate.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That said, imgur seems to be doing alright. Though like I said, it's something that can become dangerous, and I'm pretty sure the majority of imgur is aware of this. It's healthy, and I like it as well. But some of the community isn't aware of it, and I do worry about that part of the community.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm socialist. Don't insult me.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Out of the helicopter you go commie.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wheeee

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not a librul. I'm a leftist.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

*but yeah I don't care if imgur comes across as that. right wingers can go to their safe spaces like twitter and facebook and shit

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

You're either Liberal, Conservative or Moderate. Those who call themselves "leftists" are just far-left liberals.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

incorrect. liberalism is fundamentally pro capitalism and status quo defenders. Although in the USA it can get blurry. Fundamentally leftists are anti capitalism. Liberals are also performative.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

A lot of people use a lot of those terms interchangeably (myself included) but if you want to be technical they're not.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

But that's wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

It's not though, you may argue it's overly simplistic but it's ultimately correct.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It really isn't.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I argue with liberals/leftists/progressives more than I ever do with conservatives.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

There’s usually at least one person that comments in each political post that defends Republicans or conservatives, especially posts discussing government spending

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian, I see it as one of the very few hard left media's that is desperately trying to balance out in insane hard right propaganda you guys have at the moment

Pronouns is a non issue as long as you respect them, only far right morons are trying to make calling someone their name an issue.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

It's really not, I'm a moderate Republican. Just because someone hates Trump and his bullshit doesn't make them a liberal.

2 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 9

I know I definitely dont have a party anymore. I never really belonged in the right and Sanders was the last time I felt I belonged in the left.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It does to maga

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im no expert, but republican and liberal aren't mutually exclusive. I think you would most likely agree with the tenats of classical liberalism tbh.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're not up for licking Elon's boots every morning you're a filthy liberal. Sorry, we don't make the rules.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can I ask what policies and positions you find appealing in the "moderate republican" sphere?

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 6

I'm pretty old so I stand for actually traditional Republican principles like good governance, the rule of law and individual liberties, basically the polar opposite of the putrified treasonous husk of a party that exists today.

Today's Republicans like to try to insult me by calling me a RINO (Republican In Name Only) but they don't know that being called a RINO by a MAGA traitor is a badge of honor.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 4

Ahhh. Ok. Fair enough!

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

So - you haven't voted for a Republican since Nixon?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I miss republicans like you. We can disagree and that's OK but I feel like we could still find common ground on some topics.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Similar with "conservative" - what are they conserving?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As with all labels it's a matter of interpretation. Despite being mostly a left, liberal, progressive, whatever I've always considered myself a fiscal conservative. I think we ought to be way more careful with how much we tax and what we spend it on. But I've never aligned with Republicans because I *do* see value in spending on general social welfare and think the rich should be taxed proportionally.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The status quo (I.e., rich people at the top, everyone else fighting over the scraps).

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's funny, because it really isn't. You're probably a bit further on the right than you think you are if you believe that.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 14

Imgur is MASSIVELY a left-leaning echo chamber. There are literally violent left extremists who post in favor of murder here and it's upvoted. Given your statement, you're probably a bit further left and further towards the extremist side of the spectrum than you think.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

Which murder are you referring to that people were in favor of, out of curiosity?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crazy how radical left and radical right kinda look the same, don't they? I mean, they have a lot in common, like the mockery tones, the disregard for accuracy, truth, and complexity of issues. Granted that the gradient have radicalism poping sooner on the right, I'd still prefer to debate with people anywhere in the center than in any extreme. I say that like a UBI and many other socialist policies defender.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

When the starting point of your political stance is "no compromise, demonize your opponents, violence is OK" you are already past the point of discussion and compromise, so yeah.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Yeah, no. It might be American far left, but even the pro murder bits are in reaction to an extreme situation. You barely have a left in the US.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

True

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

funny enough political left and political right are differing by region/country!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Indeed, and since despite this site being majority American, it has an international userbase, there is no reason to only measure it by your scale.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I'm afraid that the OP mentioned MAGA, so while you may not measure the site's political leanings by American standards, this post is.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Was "I know you are, but what am I?" your entire argument? There are NO, literally NO mass media 'liberal'

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

sites/stations/media, etc. Capitalism doesn't allow it. This is a for-profit company. I'm wildly and openly 'left-leaning'/progressive.
