I met Mr. Awesome today at my local petsmart that helps adopt out cats for a nearby animal shelter and I immediately fell in love. He was sweet and cuddly and handsome.
I haven't owned (or lived with) a cat since I was a kid but I've wanted to adopt one for the last 5 or so years pretty much non-stop and I'm finally moving to an apartment that will allow me to keep pets.
Here's the catch though imgur, now that I have the ability I'm scared that I'm in love with the idea of owning a cat and it won't be anything like I expect.
I also would need to have a friend hold on to him for about 2 weeks until I move in to my new place and my SO worries that I will miss a lot by not being around for those important first days out of the shelter.
Basically I need your advice imgur: Will I ruin our bond by not being around right after he's rescued from the shelter? Should I just go for it and adopt this little furball of love? Any other tips and advice for me?

You'll be fine. If you want to adopt him do it! As long as you take it slow and easy,, cats can be very adaptable.

Save him, give him love. He will love you back. And, believe it or not, he will remember and appreciate what you did for him.

Cats are very independent. He'll be able to explore and get used to your house when you get him. Plus you can visit him at your friends'

in my experience those first days are very important. every time i've adopted a pet, i've made sure to take a few days off work to bond.

I say go ahead and adopt him. Cats will bond with anyone who shows them love and affection, so don't worry about those 2 weeks.

That's a partial Russian Blue. Any other cat breed I'd say no biggie but that cat's gonna bond to one person and one person only.

Him being in your home with you after adoption is pretty vital. Otherwise he may bond to your friend and their home.

Is he there through a local shelter? I volunteer and used to care for our Petsmart cats. Maybe they can put a hold on him for you.
