Rest in peace, little one

This is the day I brought my two gerbils, Chaos and Calamity home, in March of 2016. Shy sisters, I felt sure I could turn them into loving pets.

Chaos is the one with the spot, Calamity is all black. This is me trying to hand tame them. I tried for a year and a half, but they remained shy and timid to the end.

Calamity passed away yesterday, 8 months past their expected life span. I gave her the best life I could. All the toys they liked, the best food, the best treats. I will miss her, and I worry about Chaos, since gerbils are incredibly social and form tight bonds.
