Worked for a company for 2 years in a position I was over-qualified for, but loved. I’m also studying to branch out into a different sector, but that’s an aside.
I started looking for other positions that would free-up my weekends. My employer approached me to apply for another role in the company (more responsibility, better use of my skills). Also… loads more stress and oddly, less support.
It’s a company that’s not heavy with management (they have like a peer support style of working and the director oversees everything). For my particular role (which I have a lot of familiarity with), you need a direct supervisor. You need that support.
I’ve been in the role for 10 weeks and my colleague has been on holidays twice for 7 days each. I have had to oversee all her clients (with zero support/guidance) and her teams of about 200 staff, as well as my own. I work in the healthcare/disability sector and our clients all have really complex needs.
I am now a fucking wreck. I’ve not had an anxiety attack in years and am now having them daily. I was fine before I took on this role - in a really, really good place. I’m scared at how quickly I have unravelled. This role though…
Any time a mistake is made, it’s addressed on Teams in a channel everyone sees. Company director is a condescending, cold arsehole who doesn’t care who he humiliates.
I have resigned, but have a couple of weeks to go and don’t even know if I can make it in again.
Standard, “just needed to vent” comment. Thanks for reading.

Ah yes. Welcome to the next level. The Flintstones had an incredible episode called "Boss for a day". It's exceptionally.... accurate.

It’s unbelievable that someone hadn’t died in our care. Being in this role has made me so aware of the incompetence of most of our staff.

Scream away, the void is really good at answering you back, 80% with love and compassion and 15% memes and laughter
fartytowels
Thanks so much. It does help to scream/externalise! And memes are always welcome.

Sorry to hear all this. That really sucks. I hope you find a less-stressful job role when this one ends in two weeks. Peace and strength.

Thanks so much. I’m sure I’ll be ok, just really sucks for now.

If you have the means, just walk away. It's not worth your physical and mental health.

I’ll struggle, but I can get by. You’re 100% right.

Go get help from someone. Venting on Imgur is basically a cry for help. We’ll listen, but concrete help requires a professional. ⬆️

Working a notice is a courtesy.

Can you see a doctor and get documentation you need to go on stress leave?
fartytowels
Yep - I have an appointment in the morning to do this.
ForTheDumps
Good! I wish I had done it. Took a stress day off and got fired for it.
FartsSmellBad
Sounds like you need to go on two 7 day holidays
fartytowels
I reckon.

First of all, you need to work on your language since you were promoted. Instead of "shit show," try, "excrement exhibition."

I'm going to have to remember that one.

Poo performance? Or a faecal (fecal) festival?
dudehiemer
Fecal Festival! Now you're on to something!
