Greetings fellow members of the Internet.
Do you play No Man's Sky? Most likely not, given that there's only ~1000 people on Steam who play it regularly

Well, I'm one of them. Mining carbon and plutonium on the surface during the day; iron and antrium in the caves during the night, and fighting space pirates (or being one) in between.

It turns out, there's a tiny community around the game, around 100 people, who actively share their coordinates, and are building some sort of Galactic Hub thing.
No, you can't physically see other people because there isn't even a model for that, but you can leave messages on planets in special pods, name things, and otherwise interact with others' bases and stuff. And the shared environment makes for a nice backdrop for stories of exploration, because if you describe something cool, others can go there and see for themselves.

I didn't get there yet, because the distances are huge, but I'm progressing. Also, there's the center of the Euclid galaxy, which transports you to another, new galaxy.

Before I get there, I need to frequently land on planets to mine resources, which lets me explore the strange lands. Every world has some distinct combination of features, and conditions can change over time.

All of the images in this post are in-game screenshots, by the way. Here my ship is landed right next to a stone of knowledge, which teaches you a word of some language.

The game even has a story, tied to the "Atlas Interface", which basically claims that the universe is a simulation, running in someone's computer. There's a complex backstory being revealed by monuments on planets. The lore runs even deeper than the game, with the community fitting their stories of exploration into it.

I know, I know. You are going to say that the developers broke promises and generally were a bit shitty. And I won't disagree with that. The trailers were misleading, false claims were made, et cetera. But overall, I like the game. It's not all that repetitive, there's a natural progression even after 200h of playing.

Oh well. Don't take this as me convincing you, I just wanted to share some screenshots of my evening space session, and decided to write a little commentary. I might share more pictures, like of my base, caves, animals, or other things.
Either way, be good.

This game is hot garbage built on lies. Call me when they revamp factions and add multiplayer like they promised

This was a nice take on a disappointing game that might actually make me take another look at it, kudos.

This clusterfuck had so much potential.

Pop on a 'gaming' tag too. More ppl will see it

Personally I feel there needs to be more than one game and an instruction manual for there to be any "lore"

great write up on a turd.

That just sounds terribly lonely.

My friend wants to enjoy it so much, that he's created a back story for his character to give himself motivation to play. He described

the game as "massive and empty"

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's the developers that are playing it.

Like they would play with their own massive turd.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

You wouldn't?

Hell no. I scammed the world, I'd peace out faster than light.

The devs never technically lied, they were just intentionally vague and never denied anything people said. Honestly people think they

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They literally lied a bunch of times. There's a massive list, fully sourced and linked, on reddit

Got fucked but in reality the devs fucked themselves. All they had to do was listen to what people wanted and put it in play or at least

Show they cared and they'd have the best selling and most popular game rifht now.

Not denying a falsehood when asked if its true, is the same as lying. They were intentionally misleading people.

Dont get me wrong I'm not defending them but people did decide a lot of shit that they never confirm.

I enjoyed it but it grew stale quickly. Maybe updates have moved it on. I hope so, it kinda deserved better.

So far the updates have been too few and far between imo

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're planning big updates for it, it actually sounds like they're going to make it good

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It also sounded good initially :(

Yeah but I'm playing Mass Effect Andromeda now, and getting all my spacely exploration done there.
