Epidote and quartz
Hey guys! I'm a geology student that went to the Tuscon gem and mineral show this past weekend. I just wanted to share some of my purchases with you guys! If any of you are geologists please let me know if I got ripped off, its a good learning experience for me. And yeah, that was the only banana I had lol
The green is the epidote and the clear crystals are the quartz. The dealer asked $10 for it, but I got it for $7.
Cummingtonite and rhodonite
I got this mineral for the name. It proved to be a very difficult mineral to find, so I was delighted when I got it. I want to put it on a shelf in my room with a post-it note with a "?" on it next to the mineral, and a box of condoms on the other side. The dealer wanted $16 for it originally but gave it to me for $15.
The white fibrous mineral is the cummingtonite, the pink is the rhodonite
Carborundum
This is a man-made mineral that I was hoping to acquire for a while. It is generally used as an abrasive, but I like it for the subtle rainbow hues. Most dealers were selling pieces this size for $40-$60 so I was worried I wouldn't be able to afford a piece, but one Chinese dealer was selling it for $10, however, I was able to talk him down to $7
Chalcopyrite
This is one of the more pricey minerals I bought. It was originally $60, but the dealer had a 50% off deal going on the chalcopyrite samples, so I got it for $30. I tried to talk her down more, but she wasn't having any of it.
Rhodochrosite
I got this from a 50% off table, it was originally $4 but I got it for $2. The dealer was very nice and quizzed me on different mineral facts :)
Crystal Bismuth
This is another man made mineral that I got purely because I thought it was pretty. It was originally $22, but the dealer had 50% off of the entire store deal going so I got it for $11.
Wulfenite on Limonite
I got this from the same dealer and table as the rhodochrosite. The wulfenite gives it the beautiful orange color. Wulfenite generally grows in sheets, but the limonite causes it for form in cubes. It was originally $8 but I got it for $4.
