Phelps has been beaten. Ledecky had never lost an individual race. Long way to go, for sure. But, unbeaten is a big deal.

At phelps's peak he was winning 10+ golds in the olympics. She isn't winning that many. She swims less events I think

It's not, if you want to compare records. Less races means less opportunities to lose, and an athlete stops growing if they never get beaten
