This was the structure underneath one of my porch columns. See that 2x4 on the far left? That goes up to the roof joist, but does not reach the floor structure. I can only assume the newer 2x4 attached to it was meant to go to the floor joist, but it doesn't. It also doesn't reach the roof. The screw that is sticking out was the only dang thing holding up this column. Two structural engineers told me this column was structurally safe.

The new 4x4s on the right are now supporting the structure, installed a little diy-ish but with the help of my father in law who knows what he's doing.

Gonna try and do the rest myself, and I'm not an expert, but am definitely I smarter than the last idiots.
