I managed to get 3 places for links as far as I know: the reddit post, The Act Man's twitter and The Act Man's Facebook. The last two managed to increase responses from about 372 to 582.
I wanted to get The Act Man to help me on this one as I felt that /r/halo was not evenly balanced; hopefully, the people who answered through his links balanced it out and got a general distribution rather than a biased one.
Raw results are at the bottom of the list.
This means that most fans were around 2-7 when Halo: Combat Evolved came out.
Unsuprisingly, less people have played the mobile games and the most recent PC games.
Very young initial fans by this metric; it also shows most people have stayed since the beginning.
I feel this question should have been single choice rather than multiple, because some of these reasons can't be verified without playing it first.
There's an even distribution here, but campaign is most important to respondents of this survey.
Last control question, time for the real moa-and-potatoes.
I put this in to see what people play most in multiplayer. It should have probably had that in the title, but editing a title after a question has been published voids all previous answers to avoid people answering fake questions.
"Both" is a very common response in this survey. "Casual" is almost as large, which I suspected due to the popularity of forge gifs on reddit.
One of the first questions I thought of due to it being one of the most requested feature to return. However, it seems that a fairly large proportion of people now think it's not worth returning. Maybe because it doesn't work with current halo?
A surprise for sure. Can't tell how much is nostalgia or the actual usefulness of equipment, considering I can only remember 3 being useful...again, perhaps people feel it does not work with halo as it is currently.
Less popular than I remember. If I had this without armour lock, I wonder what the result would be.
This was meant to include things like Promethean Vision and the shield.
As unpopular as I remember.
Even more so. No surprises here.
This should have been single choice in hindsight. I added it after watching vids of Halo 5 and noticing it wasn't as apparent as I remember it to be from Halo 3/Reach.
No one could have predicted this answer.
Seems people don't like buying armour (like Halo 4) but are fine with the Reach/3 system. I meant for microtransactions to include REQs, but that got answered later anyway.
This should have been single choice. I also should have removed Halo: Combat Evolved anniversary as it was the same as Halo 1, as well as Halo 2 Anniversary.
More love for Halo 5 over Halo 2, which is suprising to me - I have heard thinking Halo 2 as the pinnicle for a while.
Same as above. I mostly agree, but I'm not sure about Halo 5 being more popular than Halo 2.
Halo Reach drops behind Halo 1 & 2 in this answer; also, not sure if the Halo 5 response is also due to the dislike of the campaign in general.
Can't say much about this one.
Halo Reach wins this one but not by much. Halo 5's AI is apparently worse than all Bungie games.
Added this question after seeing reddit posts complaining that pro playlists get more attention than casual playlists. Seeing a middleish response here.
Surprisingly close here. Had to change this question a bit of the way through after people pointed out that ADS in the title by itself raised connotations of CODlike gameplay while Halo 5's ADS works differently.
Very surprising that sprint won here.
Less suprising.
If it works in DOOM it works in Halo.
I put this in after seeing people talk about Halo 5 becoming more like COD in that it was a lot faster. I think I should have been more contextual here.
Some people didn't like Halo Reach changing to mostly hitscan UNSC weps, so I put this in. Again, should have said UNSC or bullet guns or something.
All Bungie Halo games had the crosshair slightly lower, either to deal with head glitching or stretching the FOV vertically, or both.
Looks like most people prefer it be like most other games.
Put this in after seeing a post complaining that Halo 5 focuses largely on infantry and not on vehicles. Question was unintentionally vague as a result.
Put this in after seeing references to Halo 3 being more sandbox-type and Halo 5 being more linear in some posts. So it's also unfortunately vague.
This question was a bit baited, I know. I'll link the excel so you can see the "other" responses.
Also a bit baited.
I didn't like how Reach introduced "Return to battlefield" because I felt it was too jarring. So, I put this into see if people felt the same.
Not as close as I thought it would be.
Invisible is spelt wrong in the answers, but I couldn't fix it without wiping all of the responses for that question.
Time to get into the largest concerns I've seen around.
Not suprising results here. Halo 2: Anniversary getting a lot of love here.
Halo Wars 2, which people have been talking about being good with art design and music, didn't get much love here because at the time of the survey, it had not been released yet (aside from one full beta and the beginning of another one.)
Expected distribution here.
I agree with this one. Surprising to see love for Halo 5's Forerunner designs.
HW2 reaches in a little here but the result is expected.
Halo 3 and Halo Reach are very close here. Personally, I like Halo 3's UNSC designs more.
In a future survey, I'd like to make more specific questions about art design involving splitting up weapons and vehicles in terms of design.
Close again here. Halo 2's covenant design is loved moreso than I expected.
Gotta agree here. Halo 5's environmental designs get a large vote here as well.
I was thinking backdrops and skyboxes when I made this question. I am still yet to see a better skybox than Halo 3's 'Halo' Warthog Run skybox, even though so many people don't see it to focus on driving.
Halo 5 narrowly takes 2nd place over Halo Reach! Not something I expected.
I expected a close response, but not a tie. Would like to make a more specific survey later.
Who would have thunk it?
Thunk it.
Not sure what to make of this one, it's a common complaint but people are fine with both. Perhaps if it became dirtier over time?
Very pointed question here, with pointed results.
Less obvious but very defining to the Halo SPARTAN look.
A question I added on a whim just before submission.
Added this after mentioning that they like how Bungie's designs for UNSC were more grounded and not sci-fi. Should have made this specific to UNSC but realised too late.
Yep.
Should have been a single choice in hindsight. Halo 5's sound design may be more realistic but it seems that it's not as popular as the older games.
Unfortunately not much of a surprise here. Will agree though, Halo 3 had a better soundtrack than Reach.
ODST actually ties with Reach on this one!
Auspicious MCC number...
Also added on a whim after realising in H5 videos they were absent.
Added after thinking that Halo 5's more orchestral music is not of the same style as Halo 3's choral music.
Same as above; but it's highly contextual and so doesn't work really.
Put this in after seeing one post suggesting it was Bungie's Halo music had more easily rememborable patterns.
Like above, I meant for weapons specifically and in some cases Covenant weps.
I was asking if people liked bang-bang over pew-pew but didn't say that clearly enough I think.
I should have had an answer here that said "a mixture of both" to ensure people actually wanted some back rather than not knowing if they care or not.
Answer is expected but earlier 'Classic' wasn't as large. Perhaps the Act Man crowd changed this one?
Should have been a single choice here.
Lot of love for Halo 4, even though it takes a different approach to storytelling compared to Bungie's Halo.
Halo 2 and Halo 3 are tied here! I think Halo 2's one is better; Halo 3 might have a fitting conclusion but some parts are clunky.
No surprises here.
Not as lopsided as I thought it would be.
Even less so here.
After seeing people say that they liked Halo's stories when they didn't have to look at EU material to understand what was going on, I made the following two questions.
More people used EU content than I thought.
Interesting to see that people liked having material from both.
Perhaps a better question would be "are you fine with only understanding mainline storylines after reading, watching or listening to extended universe material?"
Press X to kill the Didact is not popular anymore.
I didn't think 1st-person cinematics would be as popular after seeing people complain that it took control away from the player.
This question used to be about which storylines people preferred: the Flood as we knew them from Halo 1-3, and the Flood as we now know them.
I changed it to this after heavy criticism of the next question as I felt it fell under the same pitfalls.
Wasn't expecting this answer to be so close though.
This question used to be about which storylines people preferred: the Forerunners as we knew them from Halo 1-2, the Forerunners as we knew them from Halo 3 and the Forerunners as we know them from now.
However, this question was criticised as it was pointed out that the Forerunners as they appear now was actually always part of the Bungie universe, but not directly pointed out or explained. So, I changed it to this question as I felt this was also a very large complaint about 343's universe in that mystery about the Forerunners was removed.
Slim majority picks vulnerable over fine with both.
I see that the question isn't as important as I thought.
Most people wanted the Covenant to be powerful, but also was fine with them being vulnerable.
Probably is contextual but I was hoping it wasn't.
One of the first posts I saw on a forum when the Halo 5's first gameplay sequence was shown (that being Fireteam Osiris descending the mountain) was that it didn't fit Halo's more slower narrative, and that they seemed almost superhuman compared to the Spartans of Bungie's era.
So, I put this question in. Majority seems to think the same way.
People defiantly want Halo on PC!
Interesting to see a large 'No' response, but I suspect that is due to these responses being people who mainly play on console.
Like above. I wanted to see if people would abandon the console market to play Halo on the PC, but it doesn't look like this is the case.
Bit of a loaded question here. But I wanted to see what people wanted here; I feel that it would have been a better question without the compendium part.
Saw a post saying that Halo 5 Forge updates too slowly, so I put this in.
It looks like people are happier with an update schedule similar to now.
Wanted to see how many people have played this one.
Same as above. Expected much less!
ElDewrito is the version of Halo Online with P2W elements in it. Look up 'Halo 3 on the PC?!?!?' on YouTube and there will be many (incorrectly titled) videos about it.
A recent mod to try and make Halo 2 popular again; working to have some modding features.
I was expecting this low of a number.
Quite even distribution here.
Same as above.
Wanted to see how many people wanted to return to old memories...
...or classic gameplay.
A very requested feature to return! Expected results here.
Added this question after almost forgetting it was gone.
Also very requested feature. Infinity War-room be damned, people want to wort.
Almost forgotten and I'm not even sure the Xbox One can do LAN anymore, but it's worth mentioning all the same.
I wanted to see what would happen if the covenant were completely defeated and only forerunner enemies remained; not as much pushback as I thought.
A large complaint heard round the world, but not apparently crushingly large.
A two-parter question to see if viewpoints have changed...
...and apparently they have!
Also a two-parter...
...with a very similar response!
"Strongly Disagree" is slightly larger now.
In both questions, "before" was up to a few months ago.
The response is very close here!
Very slim margin wants no Warzone REQs.
Even less wants Armour REQs; seems that my earlier question about earning armour worked.
Something most people seem to agree is fine.
A question I have wanted to see a response to for a while.
A general view here seems to be that REQs helps DLC be more available, but this viewpoint isn't as large as I thought.
Hard to get round these, but here they are.
Honestly was expected here.
Not as pessimistic as I thought it would be, thankfully.
Most people are in agreement here.
I have seen some few comments stating that they don't accept any part of 343's series as Halo, or at least, Bungie's Halo. Seems that this viewpoint isn't as prevalent as I thought.
Good to see people still hope.
Very contextual but I feel people responded in terms of thinking of Halo 5's misgivings.
Most people want to see 343 continue making the series.
Have seen some comments saying that Halo needs to take a break so they can figure things out and return. These are sometimes combined with "and another company makes it" but not here.
Have seen a few comments saying that the series is dead and needs to stop; very glad to see very few people actually think that.
Added this at the last moment to see if people believed they would actually return to earlier mechanics.
It seems this is higher than above; I feel this is due to Halo Wars 2 and that Helmet DLC approaching a fusion of Bungie and 343's style.
If you have made it this far, thank you so much for listening to my rambling!
