The day I got it.
First round of modifications: New handlebars, grips, mirrors, pipe-wrap, signals and tail light. I would eventually remove the airbox for cone filters and rejet for the new set up.
Disassembly begins.
No turning back now!
First real welding project. Not pretty, but it got the job done.
A little paint on the frame.
Finished.
My old Yamaha XS750. She still as some get-up though.
All told, modifications include:
3-1 Headers and custom exhaust
Pipe wrap
Pod filters (and rebuilt and rejetted carbs)
Handlebars
Grips
Mirrors
Frame and seat
Signals

I had one of those. Bought it new in '79 and had a blast. Had to sell it just before the youngest was born when the car died.

Love the build! Have one similar, what’s the secret to jetting the carbs? More or less fuel as it’s getting more air with the cone filters?

This came out excellent, so jealous. I love my bike (08 Honda vtx 1800) but really want an older standard to rebuild like this. Good on ya!

Where's the radiator on this bike? Or is it air-cooled? Nice looking seat and handgrips.

always upvote bikes. You didn't change much about it. That seat doesn't look very comfy, but if you like it, it's all good. looks nice.

Thanks! It's certainly more stiff than the old cushy seat, but once you're riding, it feels just fine.

Just do it! I got a cheap welder at Harbor Freight and practiced a bit. It ain't pretty but it works and it's fun!
