My immediate thought when seeing this was transitioning. A lot of others thought the same! So this post is about transition timelines in response to this.
Mini-rant incoming:
Not to get too serious, but I genuinely believe a lot of hate comes from trans people daring to break free of the bonds of society and some kind of "destiny". If we can work to change ourselves, and improve our lives, and even break the boundaries of our own bodies, then wouldn't that inspire others to work to improve their lives? It's not just about transitioning, it's about breaking the stupid roles forced on us, the BS "destiny" that dictates something we had no control over (genitals we were born with) should control our entire lives. Acceptance and support of trans people obliterates barriers and removes the divide between men and women and apparently that's dangerous because it makes everyone harder to manipulate and control. Sorry if that was cheesy.

Almost all of the trans hate is for men who become women. In a patriarchal society, many men can't understand why you would want to be something "lesser." It makes them scared bc they don't want to be with another male sexually & they worry that they cannot tell the difference. It's also why gay males are hated, but gay women are generally ignored: men understand wanting women sexually, but not the opposite. The other part is fear that these are men wanting into women's safe spaces: ignorance.

I was never really suicidal but I have to say realizing that I'm trans definitely changed my life for the better. Most of the things I was insecure about both physically and emotionally suddenly disappeared as I came to accept myself more and more.

Paint your nails, grow out your hair, try some eyeliner, buy a skirt. See how you feel. There's a lot of room between "I'm totally cis" and "I want every hormone & all the surgeries". You only get one life you might as well live it for yourself.

"The opposite of suicide". Damn, I love that. That gives me the same feeling I got many years ago from a bit of a poem by Serj Tankian - "Pretending that we see does not give us sight. Pretending that we live does not make us alive." Granted, it was an anti-war poem. But the words themselves struck me because at the time I was horrendously depressed. Feeling trapped and not really living. Just existing, and pretending to live. And I knew I wanted to stop pretending.

Seeing transition timelines always end up making me feel like, "Damn, and I still look like a gremlin." But I'm also still just happy that other people can be loud and proud. I'm rooting for all the trans brothers and sisters from under my bridge.

Yeah, that's just life. I've heard HRT works miracles, but not THAT kind of miracle lol. Obviously people will be more inclined to share a timeline when they end up pretty, but one must not be disencouraged by social medias beauty standards, as always. Seeing people post timelines regardless of the result will always bring me joy because I do believe is important to be seen and I admire the braveness of making the change for the better.

Respectfully, it's neither binary nor mutually exclusive. It's also not a continuous status in terms of real-time effort, there are dedicated sprints and numerous recoveries that are appropriate for the vast array of different diverse individuals at different stages in life.
I fear this kind of reductive "us vs them" trope is effective for rallying existing allies of the community, but to oblivious ppl or ppl "on the fence" I fear this messaging is reflexively taken with a negative inference.
