One visit to my grandparents house in the very early 90's, when I was 8 or so, I found out they had bought an NES and my grandfather's favorite game? Blaster Master.
I remember him telling me about it: "You play a kid named Jason, and you drive a tank and shoot monsters while trying to find his pet frog."
Sounds utterly ridiculous, but it was fun! And hard!
I never finished the original game, although I did get pretty close.
But playing it with my grandfather was a better reward than a victory screen.
I miss him very much.
But the story doesn't end there.
When Blaster Master was remade, several additional characters were added, including Shantae.
The original GBC Shantae was my daughter's first video game!
She wanted to try it after seeing me play.
Which meant that I could play a game my grandfather introduced to me as a character I introduced to my daughter.
I'd like to think the old man would be proud.
I know I am.

Oh, man. I loved Blaster Master! Such a fun game. I still remember the day I finally beat it.
