Norway's king, my king, king Harald, has died. In his honor, I'm posting this amazing speech he did that I often post elsewhere to show his wonderful person.

Part 2 below.
Harald, like his father Olav, were strongly loved by the people here. The royalty in Norway has always been about connecting with the people. Despite I think it's outdated and redundant, I've always respected (most) of the people, especially our kings and queens. It's a sad day for all of Norway.

Sorry for potato quality, best source I could find.
Rest in Peace, my king. You, like your father, were truly The People's King.

Harald seemed like such a lovely person. Condolences from Denmark.

Your king, and your country, are models we should all aspire to. You have my condolences for your loss.

Thank you <3 Olav and Harald are icons in Norway. The prince (now new king) also seems to be a decent man.

You had harald and his father. America had Reagan and Trump. You are a People, and see yourselves as people. Meanwhile, American citizens become a commodity for the consumption of the rich, and are kept separate from each other as a people by the wedge of hatred that is fostered from the top. A fish rots from it's head down. America needs a better example, and the possibility of a future that has possibility for all people.

American challenge: Pass 5 seconds without making everything about you. Challenge level: Impossible

If they really wanted to connect with the people, try an election.

We have had elections. We elected to keep the monarchy. Dumbass.

"We elected to keep the monarchy." -Dumbasses

Correct. We did. Because it's excellent PR for the country, and brings massive amounts of tourism. The monarchy does in effect not really do anything but bring tourism. The real power lies at Stortinget. Also, I'm making a manual report to see if I can get you banned. Time and place, you disgusting, pathetic, worthless piece of shit. Pathetic useless Amerifat.

He was an avid fisherman and visited my hometown, Namsos, about 20 years ago for fishing reasons.

As someone who lives in Norway, the royal family here seems to be ok people in general. But you still should abolish the monarchy.

I have lived both in countries where the head of state was a president or a king/queen. I found that the royal was most most likely to be loved and respected by the population than a president, I would guess that this is most likely because a king/queen usually reigns for 30+ years, while a president is usually 4-14 years depending on how many terms they get elected and the duration of each term. Said that some presidents are loved by most. Ireland had a very much loved president until recently

The Polish people used to elect their king hundreds of years ago (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_elections_in_Poland).
I can't see this happening in the UK because of the number of people who voted for "Boaty McBoatface" suddenly getting a chance to elect Harry or Andrew or Jedward, all of which WOULD be funny, but...

From what little I know they seem to be okay in that they hold the shittier members accountable, at least, but isn't one like a super mega rapist and is just under house arrest or something? I mean I'm glad they decried it but...

One is. Among the gigantic family, yes. Also, time and place, you fucking asshat. I also literally said MOST in my description, fucktard.

I'm responding to the comment above, not to your post, dude. There's absolutely no reason for that hostility

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You brought up a topic that has no time and place here. Go fuck yourself. If you think the comment you replied to had no place, why the FUCK did you think following up on it was any better? FUCK OFF

There was a vote to do that about a century ago and the Norwegian people voted to keep them. You may dislike monarchy but they don’t.

1 week ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

And all polls shows we majorly wants to keep it still.

1 week ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

We would end up with the highest PR-budget winning, making way for lobbyist and crap luke in the muricas. And do we want that? Eeeeenope!

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean that was a friggen century ago. Lots has changed since then. LOTS.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

I repeat: And all polls shows we majorly wants to keep it still.

1 week ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

As I said, I think it's outdated and redundant, but it could be far worse.

1 week ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

I love this type of sentiment: 'it's fucking stupid, but we could have a child-rapist so I guess its fine.'

No.

Our monarchy is, in fact, not really hurting us in any way, and is, in fact, really good PR for our country and drives ENOURMOUS amounts of tourism especially to Oslo and the castle.

There are alternative options - as example has germany a president who fulfills similar duties as royals in other countries. A president is probably more expensive and less experienced. But an incompetent president can be replaced, a incompetent king can't. There are good reasons for both variants.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

We can in fact remove a king, it’s enshrined in our constitution.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, once. But overall is a president in office for 4-5 years. A king for life. Both can be removed from office, but usually it doesn't happen.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, time and place, you fucking asshole. Go fucking hurt yourself horribly.

1 week ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Oh boy that escalated quickly 😅

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

I overreacted too. But it pissed me off.
