I let my dog out at around 5:00am EST and I saw just a tiny sliver of the moon, which looked bright orange.
It slowly faded, getting smaller and smaller.
Soon (I'm assuming) Polaris appeared above it, and you can clearly see the size comparison
While there were clouds out, they were not causing the odd moon.
As it faded away completely, it came right back and started to grow into a crescent again.
And then faded away again. Now it's gone. I love astronomy, but I've never seen anything like it. Can someone smarter than me please help explain this? Also, I'm sorry for the low quality, it's the best my phone could take of the dark sky. I should also add that this happened within minutes.

Orange - same effect as orange sunset/sunrise. Fading - Clouds, even if you can't see them. Dot - Venus. 1/2

The moon is never near Polaris. Venus confirmed with Stellarium. Great free program.

Depending on where you live there several bright satellite reflections last night. Fun to watch if you have kids or no life like me.
