I have to wake up by 7:45am tomorrow to take Lint to the vet before going to work. He’s losing weight and not eating. His fecal test was inconclusive today so this vet visit is important. I’ve gotta be out of the house by 8:00am so I can drop him off by 8:15 and make it to work by 8:30. So I’m starting alarms at 6:25. I KNOW I’m not the only one living life by 15 minute increments. Especially in the morning

Scootsy Butt finally came to me in bed. I’ve been chilling here for like twenty minutes and she finally showed up. I can always count on this. Best part of my day, hands down. Sleep well, Imgur

aww

kitten

try getting one of those wake up lights with nature sounds, worked wonders for me in the morning.

I’ve got alarms set up all morning every 15 minutes just in case and I mainly use the ones from 6:15-6:45 for work. You’ve got some very specific time slots set up

My alarm is Dethklok's Awaken. That's it. I just use the one song.

I would wake up in time to turn each alarm (5 or 6) off before they actually went off. I would then wake up for real about 2 hours after my last alarm would have gone off. Then my whole day is messed up and I’m mad at myself. I’m taking a break from working (easier for me to say that rather than retired, makes me feel less old) so I have no set schedule. Now I use no alarms and I actually get up earlier.

There are DOZENS of us

i set one alarm. i used to have an alarm clock that you could set a specific track on a CD to play when you woke up. i would wake up when the disk started to spin and would hit the off button before it could even start playing.

I thought I had opened my clock app for a second

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just have one I snooze every 5 min

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah but how many times do you snooze? How do you know when to wake up for real? That’s what gets me

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work remote so I snooze twice between 750 and 8 and then turn on teams and go active snooze a few more times watching chats then I finally get out of bed and go to my office about 15 minutes later

Not me, I get so paranoid about missing the alarm, I'm usually up a good hour before it's supposed to go off.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I started sleeping through alarms decades ago. So I used my mobile devices to combat it. I left one on the desk and the other in the bathroom. The bathroom device was set for 2 minutes after the desk device. Forced me to go get cleaned up on time. Then a few years after I started doing that I found out I have severe sleep apnea.

I haven't been woken up by an alarm in years. It doesn't seem to matter what time I've set it for or how tired I am, I always wake up 15 minutes before it goes off. Dunno why.

I have a massive panther who climbs on top of me and walks back and forth starting at 5:30am every day. He is impossible to ignore.

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

He’s doing the work your alarm should do. God bless him

You’re not the only one but you might be the only one that does odd timings, you psychopath

2 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I can’t do 6:55 and 7:05 and 7:15 because the alarms go off every ten minutes!! Gotta stagger it so the alarms aren’t going off at the same time every ten minutes!!

I'm with you KfD and my husband thinks I'm the weirdest

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have one 30 minutes before I need to be up and one 15 minutes before. I have them set to 3 minute and 1 minute snooze each. I might turn off the first but usually it’s enough to catch the second one.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is actually the only good argument I've ever heard about why people make their beds in the morning. It gets them up, moving, it's easy enough that you can still be in a dream state to do this work, and, now, it's a mental obstacle to get back in. Yes you can sleep ontop, but who wants to sleep without a blankie? The same reasons you use to cook vs microwave food (convenience and time) can be used to motivate you to not do things. IE - you're going to eat the prepped meal vs spend 30m cookin

There's an alarm clock that makes you answer a math equation to turn off the alarm. Probably very effective but I would break that shit.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're not alone. A total of 8 for me (two not shown at 7 and 7:03). There are dozens of us...dozens!

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#1 hot take, just dont have the alarms. they clearly arent working and they just piss off anyone near you who has to sit through "alarm hour"

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh, very much this. Both my ex partner and current one are suckers for multiple snoozes, it pisses me right off.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

good luck and I hope either things are favorable and he is just a lil stomach discomfort, or its something that can make right asap!

I've got two different philosophies when it comes to waking up in the morning.
1. Sometimes startling awake is the way to go. (I hate it, but it DOES work). So, something loud that works right away.
2. Something that slowly gets your heart going, but eases into it.
Examples of #2 -
The first two songs on the ELO album "Time", kinda eases you into being awake.
“Wild Wild West” by Will Smith, the inhale in the opening is usually enough to wake me up, song keeps me going.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this...loudness works to actually wake you up, but it also isnt a pleasant way to wake up with an almost heart attack, reserved for the occasional cant-miss event...the slow wakeup is the way to go, but its hard to manage with the average alarm clock...

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree, those three songs (four technically, the two in "Time" are "Prologue" and "Twilight" but Prologue is barely a minute long and bleeds into Twilight beautifully), are intended to "slowly" wake you enough to enjoy the loud w/o shocking you awake. At least, they work well enough for me.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

also - “Voices” by Disturbed. Relatively slow and soft opening for a song that WILL get you moving.

But you can't let yourself hit snooze on them.

Yes, I'm aware my taste in music is all over the place.

also, sorry if the first comment pops up in notifications about a dozen times, I couldn't seem to fix the formatting so I kept deleting it and trying to add a line break but submitting it again instead. Finally shifted to word to get the formatting right.

my alarm clock is far enough away from where I sleep that I have to get up to shut it off

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i set at least 10 alarms to go off 3 times each. i spent like half a year in the hospital recovering from a crash i CAN NOT get my sleep sch

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sleep schedule back on track no matter how hard i try. no matter how many alarms i set. i constantly sleep thru them all. i dont know how !

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do this and have to put my alarm on the other side of the room so I'll get up ✨

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

.ᘏᗢ I just do a couple alarms at 30 min intervals at most. The cats do the rest.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ugh, if I had kept Nandor I would absolutely wake up by 7:45 😂 have fun, @IsAHotdogASandwich!!!

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We're focused on being less aggressive at 2am. We'll work on not waking me up at 2am next. I'm a morning person and up by 6:30 most days

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try putting the alarms closer together. When you put them apart you have a chance to fall back asleep, but if you put them a minute or two away from eachother you stay awake longer and makes you frustraited with the alarm, which also helps.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are killing yourself and probably feel like shit by the time the last one goes.
Sleep the extra hour.
Get an alarm clock and put it on the opposite side of the room so you are forced to stand and walk to turn it off. Then walk straight to the bathroom. Shit, shave, shower...whatever your morning ablutions...and get dressed. Attend pets. Eat. Leave.
Multiple alarms just eats time you should be sleeping. You get no rest in that hour of alarms. You just confuse your brain.

2 months ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 3

i put my alarm in the living room. if i dont set at least 10x alarms i'll sleep thru them all. even still i wake up with it in bed idk how??

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yeah, this is my approach. I have the alarm set to give me just enough time to get the fuck up, wash/dress, and get the fuck to work (about half an hour tops). Until then it's undisturbed sleep all the way.

I read a while back that if you're really lucky it takes about nine minutes to fall asleep, so on five ignored alarms that's 45 minutes of rest lost. Screw that.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you all are missing the point...people like us do sleep through alarms...we need the 2nd alarm to backup the 1st alarm, the 3rd to backup the 2nd, etc...and because we have to make sure to still arrive wherever we have to be in time all the alarms are moving forward, which makes our brains unconsciously sleep through the alarms even easier because we know the backup will still do fine...the only way to reliably wake up at the exact time we need to wake up would be a super loud alarm, but no one>

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> wants to start every day of their life with a heart attack, so thats for important stuff...the average day gotta start like OPs...only other solution that might work are these fancy special clocks that monitor your sleep rythm and anticipate when you will be only lightly sleeping, which are also connected to the lights in your room, so they will slowly increase brightness and wake you up slowly and gently...those are expensive and i have no idea if they are reliable...but they sound perfect<<<

I've also found caffeine tablets are good. My first move, before even turning the alarm off, is to take one and swallow. My grogginess is blasted away before I can return to my cocoon of warmth and bliss.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

that doesn't always work sadly.... apparently I sleep talk and sleep walk and turn it off in my sleep before going back to bed XD

2 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

this...you can do a lot of things half-asleep and then get back to sleep in an instant...the only way to reliably actually wake up is loudness, and no one wants to wake up to a fog horn every day...so the repeat annoyance is preferred...

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly this. I used to have an alarms scheme as OP, but I realized that having just 3 alarms works better. 1st alarm when I'm supposed to wake up. 2nd alarm is my "oh shit" alarm where I'm taking the call from my bed. 3rd alarm is... you done fucked up, do damage control.
Very rarely have I gotten to the 3rd alarm, but life happens sometimes. This scheme works a lot better than waking myself up early for no reason.

2 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

we dont do this shit for no reason...the reason is that we sleep through alarms, your awesome 3 alarm scheme would mean waking up at the 3rd alarm (which is already too late) about 70% of the time, and waking up at an unspecified time in the afternoon the other 30% of the time...only very few people have jobs or other duties that allow for such nonsense...the extra alarms exist to disturb our sleep enough so the important alarms actually manage to wake us up...

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Futhermore, on top of the inadequate sleep, doing this really fucks with your sleep rhythm. It is the recipe for zombie state during much of the day. Do not recommend.

The thing that worked for me is to just sit up immediately when the alarm goes off. Don't think about anything else, just get my feet on the floor. Once that's done I can slump over forward and put my head between my knees and feel as miserable as I like, but it starts the process of waking up and within a couple of minutes I start being able to function.

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I just wake up at 4am without an alarm and pop out of bed everyday like a psychopath. I don't know why or how I do it but it is every day, 4am plus or minus a few minutes and I'm grabbing clothes and in the shower within a few minutes of waking up. Engineers have to be efficient I guess.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have 3 or 4 alarms set at 15 min intervals so I wake up and get ready on time for a morning shift

2 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Yup. Those extra fifteen minutes (times three) make all the difference

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Sometimes. If an earlier alarm goes off and I’m not dead tired, I just get up. Because sometimes if I go for another 15 minutes, I wake up more groggy than I was before.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've programmed my smartphone in a way that I can use Imgur or any browser only for a short time in bed. After the time is up, I get forced to the Home screen. The only way to deactivate this, is to stand up and run around for at least half a minute

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not for me. multiple alarms trains your brain it doesn't have to wake up. I perform better and wake up faster if I only set 1.

2 months ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

i've tried MANY times to use this method. no matter how much i tell my brain to wake up in the morning i always sleep thru just 1 alarm.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ohhhh….thats smart. I do always “snooze” them because I know another alarm is gonna go off in ten minutes. How did you train yourself to wake up after the first alarm??

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A small first step would be to change all the alarm sounds to the same one.

Right now your brain knows subconsciously which ones are easily ignored.

Seconding what Chatta said, but you can also have the alarm next to you and just say UP in your head over and over.

Kinda like Pavlov's bell - train yourself to think UP / SIT UP and do the action while you hear the single alarm sound you've picked.

This can be done during the day and before bed. Eventually it will become automatic!

I used an old and loud alarm and set it up on the other side of the room or the bathroom so I would have to get up to turn it off. By the time i got it off and sat down on the bed I was awake enough to be able to force myself up. after a few months of that and going to bed at a good time my body just learned to bounce right up on the first alarm. hit the ground running hard. close on , shaved, dog walked in under 20 minutes. out the door to be early to work.

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

That was me, too. Alarm on the dresser at the foot of the bed.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Have you tried a clocky alarm clock? It's obnoxiously loud. You get to snooze once. The second time it goes off, it rolls away and you have to chase it.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh SHIT that is DIABOLICAL. I love it!!

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There are a lot of ridiculous options out there. I looked at some that would fling something across the room and not turn off until you found it and put it back, one that had you shoot a target, and so many more.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

By getting up at the first alarm every time

I haven’t used an alarm clock in years - just get up at the same time every day

Or just get a cat and feed it first thing every morning lol

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did... Did you just suggest that KFD gets a cat?!

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes!

Tbh I wasn’t looking at the name lol
