Hi Imgur, we’re GREE! Specifically, the team within GREE that’s behind the kickass mobile game War of Nations. We make games for gamers, by gamers and we think that mobile is the perfect medium for getting your daily gaming fix while away from PC or console. (What else is one supposed to do during your commute when you’ve caught up on Imgur?)

First, A Little Bit About Us

Let's take a little step back in history. GREE began in 2004 as a personal project of Yoshikazu Tanaka, an entrepreneur from Tokyo, Japan. Tanaka wanted to start a company that created new communities and new ways of communicating. The result was GREE, a social network and gaming platform. The name GREE comes from the hypothesis Six DeGREEs of separation, that we are only 6 connections away from any person on earth (including Kevin Bacon).

Today, GREE is a mobile gaming-based social network that connects players worldwide. Our San Francisco office brings together hundreds of awesome and talented individuals passionate about gaming.

Meet Jatin and Andy, two of our awesome game developers

Jatin is descended from a Nigerian prince, loves long walks on the beach, and plays the harp. Actually, we made that up. In reality, he’s a diehard 49ers fan who loves playing games and has found his dream job making them. “I work with some amazingly creative and talented people. It’s a challenging and complex process, but at the end of the day, we’re here to create fun and rich worlds that gamers will want to experience.”

Just between the two of us, Jatin used to ride motorcycles and do death-defying stunts. (Do not share this with his mother).

Onto bachelor, um, designer number two! Like Jatin, Andy is a video game industry veteran and loves it. “I really enjoy building things and seeing how players interact and have fun with the features. It’s a creative puzzle that we’re constantly solving, everyday.” When he’s not devotedly playing War of Nations, he’s into League of Legends, Destiny, Super Smash Bros 64, and the Star Wars Battlefront. He can presently be found knee-deep in Fallout 4 and never leaves the house without a frisbee and perfectly groomed beard.

Onto War of Nations

Back to the game that occupies our working hours. War of Nations is a free-to-play military combat strategy MMO. Simply put, you are a sovereign nation and your mission is to build up your fortifications, train your military, and defend against enemy attacks.

Because War of Nations is an MMO, enemy attacks come in the form of other, real players invading your space. (If you think fighting an artificial intelligence is tough, exposing your defenses to crafty, clever, and unpredictable human players is a whole new challenge.) To keep from getting conquered, you can form alliances with other players or go on the offensive and lead your own armies in combat.

We’re always adding new and exciting features to the game; coming soon, you’ll find new PvE levels and a new feature that take the alliance and MMO gameplay to another level. So stay tuned!

Some Tips For Getting Started

How does a new player get ahead in such a competitive game? We've got some tips for you.
- Follow the recommended quests and build your base up with enough resources being produced to sustain your army.
- Stronger resource tiles are located near the center of the map, so be sure to expand early and often.
- Commanders provide essential boosts to your army and can be obtained through quests and tournament events. The trick to a strong commander is quickly leveling up multiple commanders and fusing them.
- Don't forget to join an alliance for speedup boosts and entry into alliance-only events. It's dangerous to go alone!

Our Inspiration

So where did War of Nations come from? We wanted to make your traditional strategy game more dynamic by creating a complex combat system that uses commanders, units, and associated combinations.

At the same time, we saw the military theme (a long standing success on PC) not overly present on mobile. Add a fully MMO interactive map where players not only build their base but are able to take over resource nodes, and you have War of Nations!

That’s All, Folks!

Thanks for reading, Imgur! Whether you’re a fan of military strategy games or a total neophyte, we hope you’ll give War of Nations a try.

You can download War of Nations on the iTunes store for iOS devices or Google Play store for Android devices.

fuck off

Was intrigued, but turns out you're making a dime a dozen pay to win, money grubbing, empire builder. Not worth my time, guys, sorry.

How is mobile a better platform than a dedicated gaming handheld like a 3DS? 3DS has far better games, and that's just one handheld example.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not to mention you hand Nintendo their money and they can go fuck off at that point. This is just an endless dollar-sink.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Looks like shit

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck these asshats. The Crime City community was ignored when shit was hitting the fan and they would ban anyone who voiced their opinions.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't want to see ads for freemium games on imgur. Next thing there's going to be a promoted post about draft kings or some other scam.

11 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 6

Or fuckin clash of clans.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I never saw anything about that again I would die a happy man... well, maybe not, but +1 to you anyway.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I play boom beach (basically the same/same developer) and i love it, dont have to pay for anything. its actually a really fun game

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your going to sit there and state that you're gamers when you're creating this freemium horse shit? No real gamers would buy into this shit.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

$100 for a few of their "micro"transactions. For that kind of money anyone with any sense in their head would buy several better PC games.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh joy, another bullshit freemium game. Nice job Imgur.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Does anyone remember Advanced Wars?

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Advanced Wars was best Wars.

Go Away

"we think that mobile is the perfect medium for getting your daily gaming fix while away from PC or console" no

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 6

The perfect medium for my daily gaming fix is reading gaming media on mobile. The phone games all suck shit and have for years.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Precisely

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So... this is basically Game of War with a modern military skin. No thx.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And almost as generic sounding

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember when this game used to be called Command and Conquer.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

nope. different game. this is a freemium game. made to suck money out of idiots.keep walking.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even they fell to the microtransaction bullshit with Alliances, though. EA can eat all the dicks that ever was.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

so its a castle defense game, like everything else.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

and fuck your ewok

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Whoa, that's a sweet office.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

That freemium money

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Open workspaces suck ass. No privacy, lots of distractions, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So... Clash of Clans? with.. tanks?

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This looks like a regular phone game.

11 years ago | Likes 339 Dislikes 6

Yes.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

More fee to pay bullshit. Just sell me a game god damn it.

Pay to win garbage. Take your micro-transaction garbage and fucking shut your shit studio down,.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 7

Original name.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I am disgusted with the way in which freemium type games have taken over mobile.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You guys are wasting your time advertising here. I got to the comments section, and I can't even remember what your game is called.

11 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 4

Gree or something. Oh wait no, that's the company. You're right, can't recall.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Gree? You sure it wasn't Gross?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Clash of empire war nations! Do the thing! Be the awesome! Fight in of the fighting!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dislike how "genuine" this is trying to be in an effort to market to imgurarians.

11 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 6

It worked with Old Spice, didn't it? Just regurgitate stupid phrases like "updoot" and "spoopy!" Maybe that's what this post was missing?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Old Spice made ads that were genuinely funny. They were not running a "we're just like you" campaign, they were entertaining us.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

This is why I haven't tried to ask Imgur for help testing my board game. People might think I'm trying to market it and I'll get fucked. :/

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Do it man. I've seen a lot of "This is my game, check it out" and seen a lot of positive feedback!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, that's different. Microtransaction games are a generally-hated subject. Board games are fun, and you can't pay for advantages.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Srsly, board games are like my crack. Hit me up with that shit and I'll take a look.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on how good it is. If you're genuinely worried, just be as vague as possible in terms of product details.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't do it the way these douchefaggots are doing it and we'll respond positively

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude. I would love to help however possible

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well if it's genuinely good or indie or fresh OC or craft video games, I think you'll get a better reaction, as long as the content is good!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yo i'd love to help test! i really like discussing game design especially, so just hit me up if you'd like 8)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am genuinely willing to take your board game to one of my board gaming club meetings and kick it around. Have a print and play or such?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really depends how you go about doing it. If you just need people to try it for feedback you can give keys to some willing participant 1/

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

while also using the comment section as an idea of general feedback of what people think about the concept before trying the game. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People advertise all the time on imgur. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. It never works with my music, even when there's free stuff

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So, this has gotta be a 'FREEMIUM' game, right?

11 years ago | Likes 498 Dislikes 5

It is. I actually worked at GREE for two years and was around when this game was being built and its release.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you aren't spending $1000 a month on a Gree game then you aren't competitive in any capacity.

11 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 1

This is why I never download phone games anymore, especially 'building' games. Game of War was enough to kill it for me.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

better than a premium game with a season pass right?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Played it. All the fun of Pay to Win without any of that bothersome "accomplishment" normally associated with gaming.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Gree hasn't responded to top comment, minor red flag

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Very true. I was about to give it a go... then i noticed this comment

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and probably push notifications

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i guess i short handed that comment, but yeah, i'm probably gonna start watching, this is gold

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is from an episode where he got addicted to freemium games and the devil explained addiction to him

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's the new cool thing to do.

11 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Multiple $100 microtransactions, yup it's a mobile game.

11 years ago | Likes 211 Dislikes 0

thug life

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ah yes I think the developer had to sell his soul in order to get those in.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I'd say 100 bucks is well past "micro".

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

You would be surprised, 100 isn't a lot at all in the mmos I play

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You aren't playing a game, you're paying for a really expensive movie.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure what that means.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Which MMOs do you play?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most recently ArcheAge

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have lots of disposable income, little to no time, and a thirst for feeling like I accomplished a lot. Is this game for me?

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 4

Donate to orphans

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

sick copy and paste comment, bro. FOH

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Eve online, my friend. It will take your life, money, and a whole shit load of your time. But hey, its got plenty to accomplish :)

Game developer's reaction

11 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

Is he having a stroke?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's jizzing in his pants.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The reply made this comment chain.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You are what is known as a whale, and you and the small % of folks like you are who gives them profit.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

whales make the world go round

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To expand on this: Everyone else isn't who they care about for money, but the other players are needed to provide content to the whales

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yep, the Whales need the free peons to attack, and team up with, or the game isn't worth it to them.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As an Indie Game Dev, I always cringe HARD at any company that says "Mobile Gaming/App" because I know how disgusting that is nowadays.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I avoid any "player vs player" style that has any form of micro transactions! Shit's to easy to get in too deep!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The problem is that so many people now "demand" everything to be free, but don't understand it takes time and money to make things like that

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yet, when I say that people would rather play a decent P2P game with zero micro-transactions I get looked at like a loony..... :(

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

As a gamer willing to support actual gaming development, do you have a mobile game? I have Plague Inc on my phone and that's it. :/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out Monument Valley for an amazing mobile gaming experience.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to work for a company 2 years ago that had released a couple mobile games. All of them looked like cash-grabby-gross-fests.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus they threw in the word "social" which make the cringe factor even worse.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

RIGHT?!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't mind the games that don't NEED payments to enjoy, or harass you to spend. I'll even drop $5 in them. But I hate high pressure.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I love the games that figure out a way to make spending money on their games something people like to do, but isn't required to be 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

competitive in the game, Team Fortress 2 is the best option that comes to mind (though it's not mobile) I see no reason not to follow them.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

don't play LoL anymore due to community but it had a good system for money with skins and stuff while still having to earn runes

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm also more likely to buy gems if the game has a way to earn them without spending money rather than having content that *needs* IRL cash.
