My dad: the ultimate badass

This is a hilarious picture of when my dad was a freshman in high school. While he is a badass, he was (is) also a huge nerd. He met my mom when she came to his friend's basement to play D&D.

This is 1981 with his first car and his best friend.

My dad always wanted to have a boy. Unfortunately, him and my mom had my older sister and myself. Then he went on to marry my stepmother and adopt her two girls. Then he adopted my niece legally, after my sister lost custody of her, and has raised her from the age of 2 to 14. He posted this on his Facebook wall and it is the truth.

My dad joined the army when he was 17. After basic training, he came back and married my mother. He looks so young here . He is 6 foot 4 and has always been super skinny until he retired from the Army. He once broke both legs when he got caught in a wind gust jumping out of an airplane. He also suffers from Gulf War syndrome and continues to have issues with it today.

I'm not sure what year this was taken, but he looks like a hilarious French weirdo. However, you do see some of his accommodations on his uniform. I currently can't find one of his medals and awards, but he has so many of them that I can't count.

This picture was taken of my dad when he was in Desert Storm stationed in Saudi Arabia. They used this photo for the USO donation campaigns for a few years during the current war. We found it funny that no one knew it was from desert storm. I currently have a collection of 13 of them that I kept finding in random places such as the ads that come when you order things online. His current wife didn't like this picture being used because he's smelling a perfumed letter from my mother in the photo.

We were stationed in Fort Bragg for a while after Germany when I was a kid and my dad was in the 82nd Airborne. He was a Jump Master and used to practice on me and my sister by having us stand up on the picnic table while he would call out directions to us and we would jump, roll, etc, and follow orders. We thought it was the funnest game. When we would go to shows on base, my sister and I would be standing next to the fence calling out the commands along with him over the speakers. Everyone thought it was funny. Our whole lives were centered around the Army. My sister and I used to PCS move our Barbies from one room to the other.

My sister was born in West Berlin (before the wall came down) in '84. In 1985, we were stationed at Fort Carson Colorado where I was born. And then we returned to Germany for another three and a half - four years. I actually grew up speaking German and English but have lost most of my German vocabulary. My dad has a piece of the wall. He likes to tell stories about when they used to run around the wall in short segments until they completely made it around.

His mom, my sister, and I paid for a memorial brick to be placed at the Fort Benning Infantry Museum. His face is hilarious because he's trying not to be emotional.

This is a close up picture of the brick. We put the hurricane on there because while he served in Fort Benning Georgia, he was a drill sergeant at the house of pain and this was his nickname.

This is my dad's Airborne ring. He knows how much I love it and has assured me that I will get it in his will. My dad has served overseas in places such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Korea, Afghanistan, Israel, and many others.

My dad used his GI Bill after he retired from 20 years in the army and graduated from Middle Georgia College as valedictorian with a 4.0 at the age of 50. He went to school for Aviation Management and currently still works at Middle Georgia College as a flight instructor while racking up flight hours to receive his commercial pilot's license.

This is him with some of his students. Since he is so tall and has a very deep booming voice, people always think he's terrifying. I think he's the biggest, goofiest, nerd ever. But I've always liked having people be intimidated by my dad. It's just a silly thing that makes me feel like my dad can protect me from anything. But once you get to know him, you realize he's a very loving hilarious guy.

These next few planes are from Patty Wagstaff collection. He is currently down in Florida training for aerobatic flight instructor with her. This has been a dream of his his whole life and now he will be able to teach other people how to fly aerobatic style. He's having a major blast right now.

My dad said he didn't have enough excitement in his life so in his free time he joined the Cochran Georgia Volunteer Fire Department. He took this picture.

This is my dad's version of a selfie. He has had to go through some traumatic events while trying to save other people yet again in his life. In fact, recently he had to respond to a 4 alarm fire at his previous house.

Other random fun facts about my dad:
He hand builds his own electric guitars. He doesn't sell them, he just likes to make them. He loves to ride motorcycles and take me for rides. He took us shooting and taught us proper gun safety as kids. He currently has a large collection of guns, knives, grenades, and medieval weapons. He even has an M4 that he made from spare parts. He was the Cadence Caller when he was a drill sergeant and has a phenomenal singing voice. He is an amazing artist and has done many paintings, but he would kill me if I showed them. He loves making model cars and airplanes. He loves to do nerdy things like play Flight and Farm simulation games on his computer. He's an avid Star Wars and Star Trek fan. He has the most twisted sense of humor and it's evident where I got mine from. He is an adrenaline junkie and we love going on roller coasters and are planning to go skydiving together in the near future.
My dad and I are personality clones and if there's ever anyone who gets me, it's my dad. Anything I think that is funny that no one else gets, he will laugh hysterically at. Not only is he my hero for having served in the army most of my life and fighting for my freedom, but he still continues to save people as a fireman. He freely admits to having a hero complex and he's okay with it. He says that he just can't do anything with his time that doesn't make him feel like he's somehow beneficial to others.
