I had severe acne for years. Antibiotics and prescription topical treatments did not work for me, so accutane was my last resort. These are not flattering photos because they were originally for my reference only, but I couldn't be happier with the results. Hopefully this can help someone who is struggling with severe acne. I was on accutane for about 9 months. Felt like I was poisoning myself, but still felt like it was 100% worth it. Only a few blemishes since
IainImgurs
Take the up vote! Thank you for letting others see the way the drug works over time.

This was me after noticing my back acne receding. I simply bathed in coconut oil, dissolving a spoonful in warm water and laying. Worked.

Username doesn't really check out, in this case.

You look great! Also, I have that same cactus sweater.
illinestvillain
Jeeez that looks painful. Glad it's working. Looking great!
FullSpeedAhead
I had to go on it twice, still have a breakout here and there, but remember everyone gets a few. So happy for you, you're a pretty girl.
IFindYourLackOfACreativeUsernameDisturbing
Yeah I was on it for two rounds, almost 2 years.
cubancreole
My best friend has chronic colon problems thanks to Accutane.
mmmmbyefelicia
My roommate did too. She developed a blockage and was immediately taken off it
AmyBernadettePenny
Well you look magnificent! Best wishes for the future and hope you remain symptom free!

Accutane was awesome for me. Took the 20 weeks and boom, gone for good. I sure went through some lip balm though, fuck.
IFindYourLackOfACreativeUsernameDisturbing
Goddamn 20 weeks? That's good
CallsignBacon
I went through 3 cures before it cleared up.

Yay for you!! Thank you for sharing. Inspirational

I teared up a bit because you looked unhappy but you seem so happy now which is what matters! :)
juanth8
Thank you so much, I am so much happier now. It was a shock to me when I looked at the before pictures!
IMostlyCommentWithGifsSometimesPics
So happy for you. Love and aloha from Hawaii
GlynStlln
Congratz! I had acutane in highschool, and those first 2 months are rough as hell. Someone even said that it looked like ... (1)
GlynStlln
my "...face had caught on fire and I tried to put it out with an icepick." But it's definitely worth it!
Feralkyn
I always had acne badly even up to mid-thirties and swapping to a no sugar/v low-carb diet has completely cleared it, oddly. Hydration with
Feralkyn
ONLY water probs helps.
BrobiwanKenobro
I tried a bunch over the course of a decade and none made even the slightest difference for my cystic.
Feralkyn
Can I ask--you didn't clarify, you said "none made a difference," none what?
BrobiwanKenobro
Diets, contextually. Overall? Anything except accutane.
Feralkyn
Gotcha! Thanks
hartmonica
25 now still w/ acne, this scares me, don't wanna be supplementing, cleansing, obsessive sheet changing & no dairy for the rest of my life :(
Feralkyn
There's no harm in trying keto diet for a month and seeing. And it's not really obsessive sheet changing--just keep it clean, weekly or so
Feralkyn
like you're meant to, to avoid oil and mite buildup.
Feralkyn
With keto btw you don't need to avoid dairy, just sugars, look into it first ofc--but cheese is fine and so on.
iflyme
Walk into a party my 1st month at college. DJ stops the music and says, "Damn, that looks painful. Are you goalie for the dart team?"

That guy was roasting folks before it was even a thing.

what a douchebag. I'm sorry he was a complete a-hole.

Fuck that guy. Im sorry. People suck.
Mordecai213
Hahahahahahahahahha that is a bit (terrible)funny. Did you get better, then?
DurteeDaiperz
Thats a fucked up thing to say. But , in honesty, pretty funny.
iflyme
Yeah, it was pretty funny looking back on it. Stung like a dart between the eyes at the time . . .
realistichorsegonadbehavior
It's absolutely shitty and I hope anyone that heard it stopped hanging out with the DJ. It's definitely funny tho
piratica108
lol wtf he can't say that
mydogismylove
That's so awful. I'm sorry. My acne came back after acutane. Not as bad but it's still there
DirkNurple
Same. I had to do two cycles. Had to stop the first due to depression and resume during the summer when SAD would be less of an issue.
WWisLife
I had to complete two cycles a few years apart. After the second I'm much better. Laser treatments for scaring and I get microdermabrasion.
GibsonRickenbacker
Put watermark on your pictures folks, it's so easy for people to use these pictures for advertising and you may never even know about it.
votfgz
Um maybe you haven't noticed but this post is an advertisement.
GibsonRickenbacker
See!!! Exactly what I was warning them about.
Frumph
took acutane in my teens in the 80s, became depressive and suicidal while taking it, it's not for everyone
crispyboobs
I think people should get tested for food allergies and sensitivities first. Went on acutane but found out Ive been celiac my entire life.
IFindYourLackOfACreativeUsernameDisturbing
I had black outs, blood noses & aching bones, dry skin and fainting. The list of side effects for this drug are longer than the ingredients
shmekie
Me too! Thank god they warned me beforehand so I recognized it
EzekielMint
That is true however those are quite rare side effects. Sorry you had them though.
yeehawbuckaroo
A lot of Accutane side effects occur months and years after treatment has ended and people don't think to connect them.
DirkNurple
Same
treefrog
Me too - didn't realize it was the Acutane, almost ended myself. Got rid of my acne, no more depression. Wish I'd known, was still worth it.
Jeccu
Same here. Wish I had known the side effect then.
ladyatlas777
Me too. I'm 34 now and my fingers and knuckles STILL crack and bleed, even in the summer. I have battled a flakey scalp that started while
ladyatlas777
taking it and I have tried every shampoo under the sun for it. My elbow still splits and bleeds. All this started on acutane and never
ladyatlas777
stopped. I was also the most depressed I'd been on that. GPA dropped more than 20 pts (I had a 94 gpa in HS and it dropped into the 70's)
TK421isAFK
Particularly if you're planning on having kids. It has very serious reproductive system hazards. Especially, DO NOT take it while pregnant.
FierceDruid
good thing you have to pass two pregnancy tests and then take them monthly while using two forms of birth control then...
pretzelator
LOL, no one is prescribing it to pregnant women.
irisewithredeyes
Damn! Didn't know the shit was so old...
fadedcharacter
My brother took it when it 1st came on market. It was EXPENSIVE & we didn't have a lot of $ growing up but my parents paid & it was amazing.
Prawnus
It’s been around and had serious side affects for a long time.
rickeyspanish
yup...my friends face like melted off...but after about like 6 months his acne was mostly gone.
slickjim86
wait it causes depression? didn't know that .
lostnortherner
I got lost once down a rabbit hole of online stories regarding people going absolutely insane on it. The side effects can be horrific.
DirkNurple
It’s one of the most heavily regulated meds in existence.
slickjim86
Didn't know that thanks for the info
DirkNurple
I can’t confirm b/c I forget the details, but long after my stint on it a younger friend blew my mind with some verified amazeballs info.
slickjim86
Cool
DirkNurple
Pharmacist friend says it’s not the doc that approves your Rx, it’s the federal gov. Every Rx goes into a database, must meet certain crit.
ymacsrn
You were cute from start to finish.
dlshark
Came here to say the same @OP
makdog
Yep you were pretty before as well. We stupid humans get so hung up on superficial things.
CommanderCaribou
Going to tell you right now as someone off the treatment make sure you talk to someone if you feel uber depressed. I was.
SpeckledGinger
Did you have to stop taking it? I've been considering it but depression has been a big issue for my family...
ihaveaten
If you're at risk of depression absolutely do not take accutane. It regularly causes sever depression in people who aren't predisposed to it
FierceDruid
talk to your doctor about it, its an issue for my family too but with careful monitoring my doctor prescribed it and it hasnt been a problem
CommanderCaribou
Doctor was pretty careful about it. I wouldn't be so depressed but I was having s rough time at work so it was hard.
BrobiwanKenobro
I have pretty consistent depression which made me wait until 26, I wish I had taken it at 15, so so bad.
ThatWeirdClownfishGuy
Good luck continuing forward! I’m currently on accutane for the second time around; cystic acne returned about a year after my ->
ThatWeirdClownfishGuy
First round of treatment (10 months in accutane)
BrobiwanKenobro

sixsexsix
Honest question - how did you keep from picking? I don't have bad acne but what I do have keeps flaring up bc I can't leave myself alone
BrobiwanKenobro
I had it bad for 11 years and could never stop. Haha.
Camali45
I had to sew mittens to my pajama sleeves to keep from doing so in my sleep. My doctor gave me the same drug when I told her that removing
Camali45

Holy shit this I don't have skin this bad but I'll find myself in the mirror picking at what isn't there
BoldandBrashmorelikeBelongsintheTrash
Google dermatillomania. I have it myself.
jekodama
Same here. I have both derma and trichotillomania. Both are triggered by stress and anxiety.

If you're a girl get acrylic nails. Ask for them to be a little thick. They won't look real but you won't be able to pick as easily.
Tundra314
I didn't think any acrylic nails looked real lol
sixsexsix
I pick more and better with acrylics unfortunately because my regular nails are so weak.
ireallywantababyrabbit
I only have marks from picking :/ I've found getting a 'fidget cube' really helps

Did it hurt? Your acne? I get sebaceous cystic pimples and they hurt and just stay open, I can't imagine it all the time.
smilesauce
Can you comment on how the drug affected your mental (e.g drastic mood change, or suicidal thought for side effects?)
smilesauce
*mental health. My dr wanted to put me on Epirus (Accutane equivalent), but I was reluctant of the potential mental health side effects.
Ishouldhavecalledinsicktoday
You can see the change in your eyes through the photos.so much happier. You look great!

I was going to say the same thing. I remember how bad my face hurt when I had severe acne.
DeathsonIVXLCQ
it isn't as painful as when you have to shave urself for job interview
wildmansam
And congrats on not getting pregnant while on it and giving birth to the anti-Christ (or whatever they say happens if you do).
bilateralunsymmetry
Your baby can and probably will have facial disfiguration and be mentally retarded. That along with the other side effects is why I would...
bilateralunsymmetry
...greatly caution people against taking isotretinoin (I think accutane was taken off the market due to REALLY bad side effects in 2009).
GenshiV
Yeah, I couldn't believe the shit my wife had to go through to get accutane... they regulate that shit like it's an opioid.
FierceDruid
Are you kidding? They regulate accutane way more than opiods!
hungitalianohwaitthisisntgrindr
bad analogy considering opiate meds are given out like candy here.
GenshiV
Ugh... fair point. Yet my wife had to take quizzes and sign releases to get her accutane. Go figure.
hungitalianohwaitthisisntgrindr
yea. it’s a potent drug that can completely obliterate a developing fetus. probably more liability concern.
FBKatB3TAdotcom
OP, will you need to carry on this treatment longterm or does it return if stopped?
StephMat89
had horrible acne in hs. Ended up doing1yrof accutane (2rounds of treatment) Had a horrible flare up again in college when bc got messed up.
StephMat89
Started using epiduo, &my skin has never been better. now 28, it literally took years to fix my skin. And my parents were horrible about it
sweetcarnage86
What do you mean they were horrible about it?
juanth8
80% of people never experience acne again and never have to repeat the treatment so hopefully I'm in that 80%!
WellWellWellLookWhoItIs
Don't forget to change your pillowcases often. Like, really often.
whatisthisimgurforants
I was on it at 15 at 28 I still have pretty good skin. Very rare that I get a cyst, occasional pimples. Wish I had started it before I scard
DragothMP5
I did a second round of three months about a year after my six month go. But after that never needed it again. Congrats @op!
FBKatB3TAdotcom
I am glad that it has had such a big improvement in your life.
JamJamJamboreHE
Well done @OP you look so happy and honestly very pretty. I hope you have a great one and thanks for sharing this!
wanooknox
I did this same treatment in highschool It takes forever but it works! I still get the occasional pimple at 25, but my family is oily. 1/2
wanooknox
My skin still gets greasy and I use OXY still, but the difference is amazing.
rollerskateorgies
That's awesome. I took it for 6 months about 16 years ago. Occasionally get a pimple or two a couple times a year. One permanent side 1/2
ijustrealisednooneusestheirrealnameshere
So happy you had longterm positive results. I don't think people understand just how much cystic acne can impact a person's wellbeing.
rollerskateorgies
Effect I now have it very dry skin on my face. But I just moisturize lightly in the morning and it's never an issue. Way to go 2/3
FlayTheGrayZones
Try a good serum too. You will notice a big difference what good serum and a good moisturizer will do to your skin :)
rollerskateorgies
For sticking through the treatment. I know it wasn't easy. Rock on! 3/3
easyED
I was on Accutane in 1999, the best thing I ever did. the stuff is strong but it works. You look great OP
theleafssuck
Me too
mwoodman
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/516345/ Serious risks. Keep up on your liver tests.
NatsukiIsMyWaifu
Everything has serious risks. You talk like you've never taken it. It's very uncommon for liver problems to appear. My doc told me how it is
YokkoKurama
2 stints in 2007. It did almost nothing for me. They say you get little to no acne afterwards, but that isn't true for like 20% of users.
iggiemoe
I worked in Dermatology for four years and saw one person require 2 rounds out of the many that only needed 1.
owlwaysbe
Also did a couple rounds in 2006-2007. I still get blackheads and small pimples- but not the deep nasty everlasting stuff I got pre-accutane
owlwaysbe
2- I also didn't finish my second round. My first dr pushed the max dosage I could take & during my break, drs changed. New dr wouldn't give
owlwaysbe
3- me the same dosage anda couple months in I wasn't getting results only side effects. So I stopped taking it.
TheInfamousSwissCheeseMasturbator
Took about a year for mine to fully clear up. Worked great though.
BitchinBotanist
My bf had to resort to accutane - it totally works! I'm so glad it worked for you too :)
jd48191
I had Accutane in 1984 to treat cystic Acne. Worked when nothing else would. Still have the scars on my face from acne, but remained clear
ChainSawParade
Yeah I agree! I had 3 courses of accutane over 6 years. I love my results. I wish I had taken more “before” pics but I hated my acne face.
PrincessPeanutButtercup
Agreed! Took it in 2001. Still enjoying the results.
tenderape
Roaccutan for me. Also a severe treatment. Had to have my liver checked regularly through bloodsamples. But I'm glad I did it.
GeraldMcSwagginthorp
Tell me about it. I had mega pizza face, but it worked like a charm. Had to get my blood checked for cholesterol every few weeks though!
pilotperson
I'm curious--are there any common side effects?
Dimako98
Common is just dryness. You get used to using moisturizer. Uncommon can be serious liver damage, mood swings, etc
IfMandyPatakinWasAHorse
suicidal tendencies
IsuckAsthis
I spent 8 months feeling sunbired all over, still cant breath lying down and got a serious chapstick addiction, 100% worth it.
flapperfemmefatale
Dry skin, easier to sunburn (I got blisters on my nose). Also one of my liver enzymes is now permanently out of whack, but not severely
Claizen
You should see the list of side effects they give you. It's like a CVS receipt. Not joking even a little bit.
owlwaysbe
I was on it as a teenager and was even more moodier than normal because of it. Very easily irritated.
justtwobrothers
They have those nice lawsuit commercials for people who get Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis from it.
ForgivingCat
There is no causal relationship between IBD and isotretinoin. It has been discredited.
[deleted]
[deleted]
pilotperson
Interesting! I'm guessing it may have to do with hormones and chemical balances?
MetroidPrimeHesTheBest
Yes it can really mess up people's intestines, as bad as Colitis and even Crohn's
newaccount1223
I am pretty sure it caused Crohn's Disease for me and Ulcerative Colitis for my brother. Symptons didn't appear until a year after Accutane.
MetroidPrimeHesTheBest
My Bro-In-Law has UC from it and a friend has Crohn's, it changed his life in a terrible way.
newaccount1223
For my Crohn's, Remicade was a miracle drug. Unlike everything else which did nothing (Humera wasn't around), it fixed everything instantly.
Ladymeowsalot
My joints hurt.
owlwaysbe
Yes! My lower back especially was always so stiff, and my knees!
ThatRandomCanadian
Indeed. Had to go to a dermatologist for my acne and that was the only thing that worked. One round 2 years ago, and I've had nary a pimple.
LeeLooDaIIasMultipass
Does the Dr. Still recommend chapstick 37 times a day? That sure dries out the face, but it changes people's life :D
Dimako98
3 years after and i still have more dryness than normal
BJ22CS
I was on Accutane too, but my acne came back.
5tarTrek
Yep, 2004 for me. I basically kept Carmex afloat with the amount I purchased.
cking1
For me it was aquaphor and I still use it everyday.
Ladymeowsalot
Never tried that but glad you found something that worked! The only lip stuff that helped me during my two courses was aquaphor
BlueEyesStarterDeck
Aquaphor for the win... had to go heavy duty
Claizen
I also have to use chapstick daily now.
DefinatelyNotTheNSA
I never had chapped lips before, and I have needed chapstick daily since. Small price to pay in my opinion.
cking1
I was on it in 2009 it worked great but had some crazy side effects.
LadyIJustWorkHere
Like what?
MillennialsRuinEverything
Hyper inflated bowel and spinners scapulitis.
ForgivingCat
Fidget spinners?
MarkOfTheCovenant
So, do you only use it for the one treatment and then you're done or...
KatieDean11
I had two rounds of treatment.
YoloSwagginsAndTheKnightsOfTheRoundTable
I only needed one and I really had no bad side effects except for really dry eyes at the 5 month mark
Dimako98
It did it 3 years ago for 6 months. It worked great, but the dryness never fully went away.
nzor
I did two rounds of it. I was one of the lucky ones who only had minor side effects.
PamelaSplooshPoovey
I had to do 2 six-month rounds b/c my cysts started coming back. KNOCK WOOD I've been off about a year now and my skin is almost acne-free
FuzzySchemes
I did two treatments 10 yrs apart. Suspect I'll do another as a top up someday. Never gotten as bad as before the first time though.
5tarTrek
It's 20 weeks (5 months) of one pill a day. It does raise your cholesterol a bit, but your doctor monitors it. Some people need a second >>>
5tarTrek
round, but I didn't. It does make your lips very very dry, but it's well worth it. Best decision I ever made. It has an undeserved bad rap.
IntergalacticElephant
The bad rap is the massive risk to a fetus if the user gets pregnant. That's the major factor in a lot of doctors not wanting to use it
Puppysaysmeow
My friend has done it 3 times, still has cystic acne.
Ladymeowsalot
Oh no!!! That must be so awful! Have they tried cutting certain things out of their diet, like dairy, wheat, what have you?
issaidnotnow
Tumeric changed my LOIFE. I have Psoriasis. Have them try Psor Val on amazon
Puppysaysmeow
Awesome I'll pass it along!
Puppysaysmeow
No I don't think so, she's trying to diet and be healthier but is still obese. They're thinking it's a thyroid or hormonal issue now.
OneGloriousBastard
If it's hormonal then no amount of home remedies will cure it. Only medicines and accutane will
Ladymeowsalot
I did a course when I was 26. Looked amazeballs for 1.5 yrs then did 2nd course when I started relapsing. Some people need 3+. Knock on wood
celestial21
I also had to do two rounds
Ladymeowsalot
You glad you did it, both times? Safe to say I am, tho the second course wasn’t as dramatically effective as the first.
SomeAmusingMoniker
I had two rounds also, thinking I might need that third though :(
LearnSomething
You use it once. It's a really serious medication. It can basically destroy your digestive tract and your skin is unbearably dry the whole
thepieisimplicit
I had nose bleeds like every hour that would never stop. I basically ran around school with tissue up my nose all day.
Readicti
I had to be on 3 birth control methods and get monthly blood tests. But best decision I ever made
Dimako98
It's mostly your liver. You can use it again after a certain gap of time.
5tarTrek
His bones hurt? The only thing I experienced was dry lips which was bearable with good lip stuff.
LearnSomething
Yep. Most in his heels. He couldn't walk for more than a few blocks.
TheBrokenRuler
When I did accutane I was angry all the time, as well as getting bloody noses. But I only needed it for 3 months, no more acne!
Assfullofbread
It also fucks up your mood, my friend was super agressive and almost committed suicide
LearnSomething
My bf way pretty level on it from what I saw but he's not a very emotional person to begin with so it may not have affected him.
Assfullofbread
Yeah it's probably different for everyone
thepieisimplicit
Can also confirm, stopped it after an incident involving a butcher knife. Luckily my acne was mostly gone by that time and it still worked!
Assfullofbread
Shit! At least it worked
LearnSomething
Time. My bf used it he couldn't go 30 minutes without medicated Aquphor lip balm which is basically Vaseline. His bones hurt constantly and
LearnSomething
He couldn't be in the sun for longer than 10 minutes or he'd burn like a lobster but it worked. It can also cause severe birth defects. To
LearnSomething
The point where they will encourage an abortion if you conceive while on it.
IFindYourLackOfACreativeUsernameDisturbing
I'm super sensitive to the sun anyway. I hardly ever went outside when I was on them. And the bone aches! I still have them today.
AManWoman
I did this when I was 18. The cracked lips were the worst, but totally worth it in the end. Confidence went wayyy up
juanth8

I agree, it seemed to work out great for you. Did you have any bad side effects? When I was on it I had some nasty ones.

I love the necklace you're wearing at week 8!

Try long black hair growing on your tongue. Yes, a real side effect but the physical & mental pain of severe acne can be devastating.

Lost unborn child due to accutane in '04.
capitainechips
I was going to mention this. What about risks of sterility and stuff? Still a problem ?
KaroMcCurlington
I went for a fertility check 10 years after I quit accutane and results were positive. ????
KaroMcCurlington
Dermatologist made me sign contract concerning birth control and not getting pregnant till 18 Months after end of cure.
KaroMcCurlington
Took the pill, got pregnant, had to abort pregnancy bevause of contact.
KaroMcCurlington
Baby had no limbs, no chance of life. Accutane is forbidden in Belgium now. Never again
fadedcharacter
Sorry for loss but unbelievably irresponsible dermatologist.
redl0tus
It gets worse after you start the treatment for a bit then it makes it better. Go OP!
awefulgood
Too true, mine took a couple months. But seriously it was like night and day. No Proactiv could fix that.
Aercon
I hated the lip pealing but it fixed!
TheBestRussian
God that first few weeks hurt like hell. It’s like everything is exploding out of the face. I had to quit early due to side effects though.
Summersky
Do you mind sharing the side effects?

Suicidal thoughts are a big one
aFadingMemory
Thats a seriously terrible side effect for something used to cure a problem that already (I imagine) causes a lot of issues emotionally.
TheBestRussian
I actually didn’t have the extreme dry skin like some people. I started having “jamais-vu” & would be confused who & where I was.
donkeymoney
holy shit
Haphios
I was VERY dried out. Like chapped lips, flaky skin, etc. Also felt fatigued and depressed. It was nearly bad enough to just accept the acne
nosaucesbutapplesauces
OK no one has mentioned it, but Accutane is also known to cause birth deformities. You literally can't give blood when on it.
nosaucesbutapplesauces
It's a super strong medication with terrifying side effects. It righted me out though.
BaronVonKittenstein
Depression I cried a lot. It also dries out your entire body. Chapped lips and dry eyes. Also linked to bowel problems iirc
Koshunae
You need water to help bowel movements so if dehydration is a side effect, your bowels will be effected.
PeggythePenguin
As someone currently on it, I use Aquaphor for chapped lips. It helps soooooo much.
DirkNurple
You look great! Kiddos: stay away from this stuff if you have ever had mental health problems. Can trigger severe depression.
ImOnlyHumanAfterAll
I remember when I was on Accutane, there was definitely a period where my mood was extremely worsened
Dimako98
It basically brings your body to the brink of Vitamin A poisoning and keeps you there. All sorts of things can happen
RyanBall1
So it either cures my acne or I get even more depressed and kill myself? Sounds like a win-win to me!
AaronGodgers
And crohns I've heard? No idea if accurate.
BrobiwanKenobro
This one is still a mystery. It can moreso cause people to realize they're developing it from other things because it can cause inflammation
LittleMattea
You ruin your stomach floura
SailLaVie
True, but so can looking in the mirror and not bring able to recognize your own face. Risk vs benefit.
Dimako98
Even if you don't have depression, it can mess with your mood
TK421isAFK
And female reproductive system damage. They tend to downplay this today, but it can cause severe fetal damage, and possibly ovarian damage.
BrobiwanKenobro
Yeah do not get preggers on it. They make you take quizzes and shit and keep logs and every pill thing has a picture of a circle through
BrobiwanKenobro
a pregnant woman. Like, dont get preggers on it, period, or itll wreck that baby.
WWisLife
It's not downplayed... it is literally the first thing they tell you and they stress this through the whole treatment.
TK421isAFK
Glad to hear it's still being taken seriously in some places. My nephew got it without any warnings at all, but in the 90's, a good 1/2
TK421isAFK
(male) friend of mine had to go through a short storage and handling class to make sure his mom and girlfriend didn't get exposed to it. 2/2
NiHyde
Yeah literally tell you it every month, it's written all over the pills and they make you answer questions correctly to get your next dose
FierceDruid
Plus the monthly pregnancy tests!
GhostGuy
Yup. When my friend was on it, it was mandatory that she also be on birth control.
DirkNurple
Can confirm. Good friend of mine had to take birth control. She was a lesbian.
causality
Accutane has some crazy-ass side effects, including faux brain tumors. Always consult a doctor.
WWisLife
You mean the Dr you have to see in order to get the prescription?
causality
Yep. Don't order it online.
ohnogodno
yeah I guess the message is "don't just take your mate's leftover accutane"
FierceDruid
your mate won't have any left over. They only give you more when you run out and they stop when you're cured and you're out of pills.
FierceDruid
...not to mention the 7-8 months of lecturing from the doctor on the dangers of sharing it
BrobiwanKenobro
I think it can, but since it's mostly taken in adolescence, it gets a worse rap than normal. This is the reason I didnt take until 26.
dremth
Yes, it's a correlation to depression, not the cause. Ages when ppl take accutane are usually the same ages ppl normally develop depression.
BrobiwanKenobro
Yeah. Taking something that causes you even more grief, pain, and side effects in HELL SCHOOL(highschool) just causes a snowball effect.
FierceDruid
Having severe acne can also trigger severe depression...
kcrvoxtano
Severe insomnia and depression for five years, here. Slept 3-4 hours a night for three years in high school. 10/10 would not do again.
DirkNurple
I believe it. For me it triggered a SEVERE depressive episode, the upside of which was I realized I have SEVERE SAD. 1/2
DirkNurple
“Why do I want to die in July? These are my Oct to May feelings. What do you mean everyone doesn’t want to die 8 months of the year?” 2/2
kcrvoxtano
Well, I’m glad that you figured that out, although it would have been better to do so by another method!
DirkNurple
Fo sho. I’ve never shared that. Glad you replied. Made me feel oddly validated. Thanks homie.
kcrvoxtano
I’m glad I could help. Cheers.
