The United States has been figuring out your weaknesses and how you can be strategically taken out and potentially annexed for quite some time, and I'm sure it's still a possibility they have to consider if certain events happen, given the shared border. Of course it's only hypothetical...like when Batman collected data on how to defeat each member of the Justice League.
So rest easy today because for now, we are friends, Canada...and you're welcome for letting you remain a sovereign country for another year.

The US has tried to invade Canada twice... (War of 1812, and the Fenian raids) we stopped you both times.

1812 was basically a draw and the Fenians were a militia group not affiliated with the US.
