Its not something you really practice or anything, its just an expected 'show must go on' courtesy. Its like a cultural norm.
Nobody is having meetings over broken string contigency plans... its just, part of the job that it can happen, and you're expected to help.

There are little tweaks that are different, but all violins are fundamentally the same. His might have a nicer sound though.

I don't play either, but violins come in different sizes, to fit different arm sizes. I don't know how difficult it is to adjust to a 1/
different size. I imagine it's harder for a short person to play a tall person's violin than vice versa.

Similar to a guitar, honestly. Except there aren't generally any crazy custom violins like there are with guitars. The string type and point
of resonance will be different from what you're used to, but not so much that you can't quickly adjust. For a soloist this is not difficult.
But you won't be able to play all-out like you might on your own. Drop from say... 100% of your performance to 90-95% probably.
