I work in numerical controller for machines and this precision is like a porno.
AgentAtaraxia
I can't be the only one who wanted to see them suddenly go ape shit and start battling, right?

What could possibly go wrong?

They had this demo in 2009 already. Nothing bad so far. Or so we think.

This is why i spent extra time securing the network hosting the robots at my work. This was the first thing I would do as an intruder
RibbleTPibits
While you were partying. I programmed the blade.

No slip in those threads.

Robot sex is weird.
chinesemario
Is this what the kids mean by docking?
TK421isAFK
No, you do that with swords still in their sheath.
Ah that makes sense, for protection
Sure.

Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe was the name of the book. By George Takai and Robert Asprin.

I don’t see the point

It's on the opposite end to the handle.

To show the precision of their robotics.

Two power bots touching tips

Displays the accuracy and repeatability of the robots actions, fun trade show example to show future clients how precise their bots are

I wonder how frequently these have to be maintained and calibrated to keep this level of precision in practical use.
Ayoitsyeaboihmikey
Not as frequently as you would thing tbh, some company's just lettem run for years and fix it wheb a motor or gear let's go. Some do
Oil changes once every 6 months or so just depends on how smart the company is lol
AstroHun
Power Mill is a helluva drug. I dreamed about doing something like this with the Kuka robots we had work waaaay too often.

They’re already among us!..

The point to point is madness. So technically beautiful.

*beautifully technical.

Pity you have to replace the robots every year to keep this kind of accuracy in a production environment. So wasteful, but so pretty.

If terminator was remade based on today’s tech , Sarah Connor and Kyle got no chance. Robots with AI+on fly machine learning Is coming.

It would be neat to see(if possible) a sheet of paper held between them, either Balde/blade or point/point. Or a coin?

Just the tips.

Pretty easy to do though.
GourmetCrackHead
So uhh... Make a post of you doing it then
coliander
Can't be bothered.
DanFlorentONE
Programming a robot to do that? Yeah, they are not very complex movements. Making a robot that can be that precise? Not so easy
thri1
I doubt they are actually pushing point against point. More like aiming at the same focal point.
JHawkInc
Right. The point is that they’re able to be that precise AND in unison to not get in each other’s way.
It's almost like they've been pre-programmed!
Vaelborn
Doesn't detract in anyway the marvel of the display.
GingerLaird
Yup. They wanna show of their tech, so they're gonna make a spectacularly useless display, just to show how precise they are. Beautiful.
bridgebrain
I mean, they did this kind of display with the remote-scalpel bots too, but people demanded bigger knives.
llortamai
Closer to Gundams every day.

Honestly theese programs doesn't take long to make. You mainly controll the tip by giving it points with positions nad angles. 1/2
Itsonporpoise
I remember a buddy telling me pool is an easy game. After all “it’s just geometry and angles”
There's also velocity and spin. Which changes where and how hard a ball hits, letting you curve a ball, or determine where it ends up.
The robots work of the same program wich tells both what to do simoultaniously, so the robots allways know where the other one is. 2/2
You can allso add objects in the software, so when they've been programmed they've had the swords there all along. 3/2
doctorhorseplease
I only remember Simone Giertz trying to program one to serve her cereal. Didn't turn out so good but goddamn it if it didn't try
Gemutlichkeit
I think the novelty here is the design and implementation of precise mechanics. The code is kind of a given.
