#6 I think that behavior is romanticized - sharing memes or comics or whatever. My grandfather would clip comics from the Sunday paper to mail to me with little notes on them.

If you want it to be romanticized, then just do it. There is no council

#3 Math not mathing. 1st... $5 for a drink? fuck that. 2nd. 60 interviews per day is one every 10 minutes if you work a 10hour day with no breaks. Trying to subtlely work in a push to buy a drink and then have them even start to drink it would take more than the 10 minutes. Not to mention there would have to be a constant line of interviewees, every day for roughly 5 minute interviews... maybe. Remember, no breaks.

And at that point it’s not “passive” income. You are working for it. Just be a recruiter at that point and charge commission

If about half of them buy a drink, they're saying they're making a 10$ margin on every drink sold which....yeah. Doubt X.

Fibro is such a bitch that way. A friend of mine "solved" it by carrying a dressy cane, mostly to get over his own impostor syndrome.

#4 "Fork theory" is seven paragraphs to explain "the straw that broke the camel's back".

The phrase "stick a fork in me, I'm done" doesn't mean you keep sticking forks. It's just a more elaborate way to say "I'm done" as in "finished", "complete". From cooking - where you stick a fork in something to see if it's done cooking. Then the phrase went about it backwards - "I'm done (with this), so stick a fork in me".

And the fork theory somehow makes it a fork limit.

I got autism and it seems to be a common thing of us overexplaining things in an attempt to make them make more sense, or as much sense to them as it does to me. I like analogies, they help me understand something better, if I can apply this logic/reasoning to something similar then it helps it fit together better in my mind. This can ofc tiring and confusing to others, but it’s something that takes practice, learning to leave out the redundant bits and to not over explain everything

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but this is just a bad analogy. Spoon theory is about spoons because that's what the person used as a visual aid for the concept- the spoons are widgets. But Fork theory is about forks bevause the idiom is 'put a fork in me, I'm done.' So stressors are forks of varying sizes being stabbed into you which you can tolerate up to a point. Who walks around with multiple forks stabbed in them? That's not a thing, so you have to explain it and the analogy fails.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It is an elaborate explanation for hitting one's limit. I feel like a possible reason someone came up with this elaborate expansion of the idea stems from forks being different sizes, whereas straw is all... pretty universal. Thin, yellow, fits within pretty standard parameters. I always replace the spoon metaphor with knives. My drawer, every day, is filled with knives. I need a spoon, but I have to use one of several improbable knives to do the job. It's inefficient and laborious for everyone.

The straw idiom isn't at all about equal measured loads.

The situations described in the post is that several different problems can be endured but one more might be too much. Even if it's a little one. That's exactly what the straw/camel idiom describes: "the last in a series of bad things that happen to make someone very upset, angry, etc"

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/the%20straw%20that%20breaks%2Fbroke%20the%20camel%27s%20back

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, it is. It is both.

A straw is universally a small thing. Having too many to the point of harm is bad. One last small thing is the tipping point into bad. It is also a touch ridiculous because you don't load straw individually, so a single final straw being too much is a little silly, very memorable, it's why it works as a simile.

The post suggests that it is not always a load made up of virtually-identical stressors, and that not all loads are equal. It's a subtle difference, but there.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never in my life heard or read "the straw that broke the camel's back" used to refer to virtually-identical stressors. I've always encountered it to means "one more stressor was too much". And it might be small or it might be big.

I think you're taking the phrase too literally, I don't believe that's how it's used in practice.
