Most state Guards offer some amount of tuition assistance. I think there is compensation for emergency activation orders though.

My unit has done this before - we get the new recruits to come by on a drill weekend before they go to Basic and just see how we do things.

Lol Guard deployment times are(were) a joke. They deployed to beef us up, were in and out <30 days. Hardly effective.
