There are a lot more pedestrians than cyclists which starts to skew the numbers, many pedestrians are young, old or infirm in some way and more prone to injuries, more skewing, then (most) cyclists wear helmets too. So comparing a large cohort to a small one using absolute numbers is pretty much meaningless. Comparing the percentage of head injuries each day to pedestrians vs the number of cyclists who don't wear helmets would be a lot more meaningful, I'm guessing one would be much higher
The RATE of head injuries is about the same between pedestrians and cyclists, so as a personal choice you should 100% wear a walking helmet. In absolute numbers, pedestrians have far more head injuries, so as a public health issue walking helmets should be legally required.

Sorry mate but that logic is ridiculous, cyclists are in the road with traffic passing them at speed, pedestrians are on pavements where the traffic isn't, and not moving at speed. No matter how safe you personally are there are many more people driving that are not.
It's like saying you should wear shoes to bed in case you step on glass. You wear shoes outside to protect your feet, just in case you do step on something. Why not protect the other end just in case some idiot hits you with a car?

There are a lot more pedestrians than cyclists which starts to skew the numbers, many pedestrians are young, old or infirm in some way and more prone to injuries, more skewing, then (most) cyclists wear helmets too. So comparing a large cohort to a small one using absolute numbers is pretty much meaningless. Comparing the percentage of head injuries each day to pedestrians vs the number of cyclists who don't wear helmets would be a lot more meaningful, I'm guessing one would be much higher

The RATE of head injuries is about the same between pedestrians and cyclists, so as a personal choice you should 100% wear a walking helmet. In absolute numbers, pedestrians have far more head injuries, so as a public health issue walking helmets should be legally required.

Btw, in countries where people cycle a lot, no one wears helmets. This data is based on neither population wearing helmets.
