Find Hungry Samurai

Anyone else mentally assign them Seven Dwarf-like names while watching? Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, Itchy, Drinky, etc?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Seen it before, but this is badass nevertheless. Thanks for reminding me of it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You make the mistake in assuming I own a house. Or a projector. Or talent.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd paint the mouse as well, much better story :P

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Alright, the projector idea is freaking genius.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

google "opaque projector" just rest it on a piece of paper, and it projects the image on the wall. they're cheap and work great for murals.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used a similar method back in high school for an art class. Only that was using a projector and a printed transparency.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear; dick stuck in ceiling fan...

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

But... there are only six samurai in that pic...

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Seven hours?! I'd have taken seven years to paint that

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And seven samurai, also.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I love the brutally honest title. There's no way I'd get round to that either, but hey, it looks cool!

Samural

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thought it was Morgan freeman at first.

11 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Haah and me too! Though I was thinking about Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves. ^^

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was thinking more Samuel L Jackson, but to each his own.

Training day, the prequel, we the fucking mazaku, we can do whatever we want.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

haha! Me too! Thought it might be something from Shawshank..

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In high school, my class got to paint the walls in one of the classrooms like this. It turned out really bad.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

-ly

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What did you end up painting?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We chose a theme of music and musicians, so we tried to paint famous musicians (Hendrix, Cash, MJ etc.). Looked like huge black poo stains.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha That would've been a great idea! Too bad it didn't turn out as planned. :P

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now if only I had a projector...

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Sometimes local libraries and/or universities will lend/rent you them! May have to put down a small deposit or leave a cc or something.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

fuckin rad dude

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Question for Imgur: where do I buy a cheap and decent projector?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am so going to do this when I own a wall

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I love 7 Samurai! Such a classic. Though you picked an image that only has 6 of them :(

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The seventh was the one taking the picture... Why didn't they use the selfie stick that guy on the pic is carrying? Beats me...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's the 7th.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The projector method also works with full color murals, if you have the patience. /a/7jN5t

11 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 0

That's phenomenal! Can you adopt me? I'm just a 24-year-old girl who thinks that is great!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, don't feel too bad. The idea was my wife's and she just turned 30.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow, that's awesome!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this is great and you should feel great

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh, I've done this before. Plus cat tax.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just nergasmed. Looks amazing!!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me toooo :D I even reference the original post in my post haha /a/GefaY

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah yes- I think I've seen that one. Did I? I don't even know anymore...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that my cat?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is your cat a tortie called Yo Yo?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had to watch the Seven Samurai at Uni. Donating bone marrow or have my fingernails pulled out, or being water boarded would've been better.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's all fun and games until OP bumps the projector

11 years ago | Likes 1558 Dislikes 2

*screams internally*

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

might be a good idea to leave a mark exactly where it is in case it's bumped

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, only problem is it still is incredibly hard to get it to line up exactly. Good in theory hard in practice

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'm sure it is. i wouldn't really know since i've never used a projector ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In your image add alignment marks like plus signs in each corner. Trace those in pencil first. If it gets bumped you can realign

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

What happens if your lines and marks aren't small enough or the angle of the projecter distorts the image slightly. Would be close not perf

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look at you, all smart and shit.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Literally even the slightest move can really alter that character's appearance just enough that the viewer would be put-off by the change.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My cat would bump the projector on purpose. Just kidding, I don't have a cat.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If you had one, it would wait for you to look, then rub up against it. My cat does that to my monitors all the time.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Dude! You don't know the struggle. Did my daughter's room in Care Bears, got halfway through a bear when the dog came barreling in.

11 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 2

"NO DOG, NO! YOU ARE A BAD BOY!"

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yup, me too! I did a wall at work and someone packed up the projector while I was getting a snack.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh god.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

dog*

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I guess this is one of those projects best done when you have the house to yourself for a day.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes and no. Depends on how in depth you go. For the one in this post, sure. For the Care Bears, much of it I did with very small brushes.1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All in all, it took me about six months to finish.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

....bearling....huehuehue

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

You got the sensible chuckle. Have my +1.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You monster

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would go mental.. :P

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love you for saying this, but I am very upset that you said this.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or paints the mouse pointer.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A little like when you move your tracing paper and only notice half way through drawing the rest...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I cringed all little bit

11 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

oof

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I let out an audible "Oh, Fuck!"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's why you use registration, goddamnit! crosses in the corner and a unique pattern of dots and/or dashes along the bottom.

11 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

Go on...

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

not much more to say. just create a set of rigid marks on the projected image, to be traced on the wall, to preempt realignment problems.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put a cross in two or three places, out of the way. Add painters tape crosses on the wall and, if needed, line it all back up again.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Doesn't everyone do that?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Registration in printing is using marks to align objects properly. In screen printing you would use them to overlay multiple colors properly

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

when you are dealing with more than one screen/color so there isn't any unwanted gaps and everything aligns/registers correctly.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tell me more about these Registration Goddamnit Crosses...

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I honestly think this wouldn't line back up perfectly, so small details would look off.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

far better than guessing, and the more points of registration, the better. if you can accurately match 4 corners and a horizontal pattern, +

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+ the smallest variation will be negligible. Given possible distortion from the projector beginning off-level, it's about as good as it gets

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get what you're saying but in theory versus in practice the results are quite noticeable

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

eh, depends on the level of care. The way I think of it, if a piece is good enough, you can cheat it in plain sight and no one will notice.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This didn't even happen and I'm angry about it.

11 years ago | Likes 432 Dislikes 0

You forgot to add "have talent. "

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I f'in love that movie.

11 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

Anyone else mentally assign them Seven Dwarf-like names while watching? Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, Itchy, Drinky, etc?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love the Big Lebowski too.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Watch your language!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

ffuc'kthis'thing'in'particular'in love that movie.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm slightly interested in it cuz of ur reaction, but in your opinion whats so great about it?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Just watch it. And then watch Yojimbo. And then watch Throne of Blood. You won't be disapoint.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The film folks around here might not like me for saying it, but be aware that the movie is very slow at times.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seven Samurai. A fantastic tale of swords, friendship, and alcoholism! Super long tho

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

oh man.. the direction... the cinematography.. the plot.. the acting.. .. I can't say why I like it so much, but if you like movies......

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you're into anime then you should watch Samurai 7.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

not anime

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Samurai 7 was pretty bad. The Magnificent Seven is decent though, and probably the only good remake of Seven Samurai.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Me to! The long cut is amazing.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The Criterion edition has a commentary by a Kurosawa scholar that is out of this world. It made my favorite so much more fun to watch!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh man I have not seen the criterion version and now I really want to. Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

what a piece of cinema

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I could watch it over and over again and still be as happy as the first time I watched it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

so. good.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you prevent your arm from blocking the picture.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Become a ghost

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

THANK you. That's been totally baffling me.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're right handed, work moving right and position yourself so you don't block the picture with your body. Left handed same but go left.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holding the brush at an angle?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 for using corfe castle! I used to live near there

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why this picture? It has terrible contrast but beyond that just a dull image. What am i missing here?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think you should try something woth a bit more contrast to use.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dunno...trying to hold Harrenhal rarely ends well for anyone.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You'd need a picture with more shadows and lights, like this

11 years ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 0

What castle is that? It's really neat.

B&W with green||red channel brighter? But I'm colorblind so... don't maybe listen me here, hah

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't think about boosting some channels. Gotta go to sleep though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man, you've got a really cool house

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh hey I've been there

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey I live like 3 minutes from there!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live near there!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Local Imgurian! Hi!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So do I! Like 15 minutes away!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doubt it will work. Image needs a lot of contrast. Your image does not sharply contrast, there is no contour.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

I live relatively close, could just go take my own picture if I can't find a good one online.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

With a lot of patience, you can definitely still do that, and it would turn out fucking incredible.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, where the Seven Samurai picture took 7 hours, that one would take 47.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Completely art illiterate here, Could I have an example of a pic with contrast that would work and why?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The original post? :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, didn't think that far into it thank you. But now could you tell me if I'm right? Contrast would be how one object stands out from 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the other because of diff in color? (maybe shadow too?) Again, completely pulling this from my butt.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
