Every damned time I use Self-Checkout..."Cashier has been notified to assist you..."

I read self-checkout as self-destruct

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me this evening. "Assistance? I don't need an attendant. I can get my own bag, damnit"

I actually find those things more frustrating. Regular cashiers I almost never have had an issue with.

UNEXPECTED ITEM IN BAGGING AREA

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Remove unexpected item from the bagging area YOU THIEF!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's better than Home Depot near me. At the self checkout, the workers scan you items and press all the menu options for you. Point missed.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

guarantee they had too much theft coming from self check and gave up on it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hate those things. It's much easier just to avoid eye contact with the humans.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This, I put on headphones and go through the regular checkout. If they try to talk to me I just tap my headphones.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I refuse to self-checkout until they pay me a cashier's wage for doing it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Set stuff on the side so the robot can get the weight. Get a few things on there, move it to the cart. Grab a bunch of bags. Bag later.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always yell at when it starts telling me to put things in the bag because i'm not fast enough.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Robots. "Not affecting our lives in the least." "Creating a better world through unemployment."

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My grocery bag is heavy, so it's always like, "There's something in the checkout area." YEAH! MY BAGS I TOLD YOU ABOUT!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most self checkouts, if you wait like 5 seconds after filling a bag, you can remove it from the bagging area w/out fear of robotic reprisal

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

The ones at shoppers dont make you put it in a bag, feels good.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My Fred Meyer will allow you to proceed, but if the order had a weight/item alert at any point, it halts at payment for employee review.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe for you, but I'm always at least a little afraid of robotic reprisal

"ITEM REMOVED FROM BAGGING AREA. RETURN ITEM TO BAGGING AREA."

UNEXPECTED ITEM IN BAGGING AREA

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"I DIDN'T FUCKING PUT ANYTHING IN THE BAGGING AREA, FUCK!" "Look away kids, it's just an autistic 30 year old screeching at a robot."

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

GUYS ive got the solution. the whole bagging area is weighted so if you scan the item, and the weight is not added, the message pops up/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so just make sure the weight of your item can be felt in the are.yes the bags and stands are accounted for.sauce:pharm tech in grocery store

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Open the bags before you start .... but that’s only good for the first 2

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

What if you just bag everything after paying? Just put all the items on the scale, pay, bag.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I'll freely admit I should have done that, especially since they had a rotary bag holder thing with six racks.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

fancy. I'm lucky if there's enough space to put a full bag

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Open the next bag before you scan. That works for everything. Also if you bag something light, push down on the scale so it senses a change.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"The object you have placed in the bagging area is too heavy. Please remove *BEEP* *BEEP*"

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Gotta be quick like bagging ninja!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have the kind of self-checkouts here where you pick up a handscanner scan shit throughout the store and then just pay and leave.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That sounds amazing for the consumer, but how do they keep people from... just walking out?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, and you get random screening as well, fewer the more you use the system

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's always someone on hand by the check outs in case someone needs help.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@linogewotc My strategy is to paml-heel it until the clerk resets the computer and fixes the problem. It seems to be 90% of their job FFS...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck self checkers your not getting a discount for doing their employees work.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You do if you incorrectly label items to get them cheaper ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But odd it’s faster. Yea only because they tricked you in to doing it they can layoff cashiers further funneling you to self checkers

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Made the mistake of swiping an item twice, had to decide whether to talk to attendant or just pay twice

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It always bugs me about stuff, except for the one time I grabbed a 2-pack of pie crusts not realizing it was in fact two 2-packs stuck 1/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

together (it felt like the right number, I didn't question it). Not a sound, let me go on with my accidental theft. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Order online and have someone pick it up for you.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Still too much interaction. Order it online and have them drop it off on the porch.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Even better, order it from Amazon and have them drop it off indoors

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

YES. Because as we all know, having a stranger wander in while youre there is comfort itself.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Order it with a computer and have a drone deliver it to you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But then you still need to open the door and potentially go outside

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, just open the window and let the drone in. Invite him to a beer.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

this can't be upvoted enough

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I say conversate for the same reason I say Canadia or Floridia, or pronounce jalapeno as "jah-law-pen-o." It's just fun.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conversate Oddly, it got its start not far from me.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I feel you. I use 'conversate' all the time and get funny looks.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

Because the word is converse.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well now i have to go back and find my college professor who spent 5 minutes berating me about this very "mistake" a couple years back.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Apparently it's quite contentious: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/is-conversate-a-real-word But also from around 1829 or so.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Love me some knowledge!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They also say "Literally" means "Figuratively" now, so their opinion is suspect. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/literally

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

actually, it wasn't uncommon a century ago for people to use literally as figuratively. i hate that this is the case, but it is.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As with Conversate, people using it incorrectly does not give it the right to be in the dictionary. Ugh has been used for millennia;

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

gonna have to disagree with you there. language is alive and many legitimate alternate definitions started out as misuse/slang.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I dont want what you lot use, to be called English anymore.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but that's just because you don't understand how commas work

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I was in a comma once.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Conversate is not a word

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree. Now that we're on the subject of butchering the language, explain what that comma is doing there

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See that's your first mistake. Leaving the house.

9 years ago | Likes 593 Dislikes 2

I get all my groceries delivered to me

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Why did you even leave your bed?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Woke up, still got into an argument with myself today.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You see kiddo, that's where you are wrong. The first mistake was ever being born.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Worst. Mistake. Ever.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You see, my friend, that's where you're incorrect. The first mistake was being sperm in the first place.

I use Amazon Fresh for the most part since I don't drive, and it's been a life saver.

And they're becoming a phrama company too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but they don't do grocery deliveries unless you live in a city.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Well then I suppose a lot of people are going to starve

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not true i can prime pantry stuff

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'll admit I haven't looked in about a year. Maybe it's improved.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Semi-related, but not a comment on you in any way: if one cannot operate a self checkout in less than two minutes, they shouldn't be...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

...allowed to use them at all. (2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does that count the 5 minutes I have to wait for an employee to assist me because the scanner thinks I didn't put my bread in the bag area?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They aren't express lanes.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, yes they are.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there are literally lanes with small bagging areas and ones with large ones for people with more stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Zero fucks given. You're an inconsiderate fuck if you try to run your massive grocery trip through self-checkout. The cashier... (1)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...out of the way and use the manned lanes. (3)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...will process you far faster than you possibly could *anyway*. So if you've got a shitton of stuff or are just slow, get the fuck (2)
