The writer of that article is either ignorant or biased. Clinton's comment didn't backfire, it did exactly what it was intended to do: play on multiple levels, including thousands of years of women being identified by their male partners, even in articles about their own achievements; while also triggering all the conservative snowflakes and paranoid conspiracy theorists....

The vast majority of people didn't, since it's mostly only Americans who bother.
DanCodyComics
There's literally more than 300 million of us, that's still a big chunk.
Trelis
It is, and to be fair, I guess US is one of the biggest demographics here on Imgur.
DanCodyComics
Don't get me wrong, were over-represented in media at large, and as a result we have a tendency to assume too many forums are US-centric by default. I just think the tendency is to assume that error is a much further margin than is genuinely appropriate, especially in the Anglo world.
theworldcouldbeflat
Yeah but there is like 1.5 billion people who speak English regularly outside the US
DanCodyComics
I'd like to imagine that if I were at a party where 1/5 of the people there were talking about something big happening in their lives that the rest of the partygoers wouldn't be so hasty to tell them to shut up.
theworldcouldbeflat
Well if the party goers hadn't been a bunch of Racist pricks maye they'd enjoy the party...
TheOtherLucas
I had not seen last night's ludicrous display, unless you are referring to the dark brandon tweet from the president of the USA. That was ludicrous and delicious. I am not interested in watching 11 minutes of actual gameplay interrupted by 49 minutes of commentary and commercials per hour....If I wanted that, I'd watch Youtube. That said, congratulations to the sportsball victors, the 'chiefs' of Kansas. End nerdmission.
pgdave
If you think the game is only interesting when the ball's in play, you really just don't understand what's happening. That's like thinking that only high scoring soccer games are interesting, and a 2-1 game is a snoozefest.
stinkybadger99
6-nil
NickRivieraMD
it's not though. I'm not that guy but I don't give a shit about teams or who wins, I watch sports to see athletic skill on display. Which you can enjoy regardless of scoring, but not regardless of whether the ball's in play.
pgdave
The tactical parts of the sport all happen off the ball - deciding when to take timeouts, deciding personnel for both sides, deciding what plays to run, deciding what defenses to run, motions, etc.
TheOtherLucas
I was only expressing an opinion and in reference to the fantastic show 'The IT crowd' for context to the original post (shout out to @OP ), you know, because opinions are like assholes, everybody's got at least one. I don't care for spectating sportsball. If you do, that's fine, like other peoples' sexual proclivities, it matters not a whit to me.
pgdave
It's the fact that you referred to "11 minutes of actual gameplay", which implies that the rest of the time - the time when the ball isn't in play - isn't actual, meaningful gameplay.
TheOtherLucas
and in my opinion, it isn't. It's like watching someone juggle for an hour. for eleven minutes, they are juggling and it's awesome, the other 49 minutes are them explaining every nuance of the flipping of wrists, clenching / unclenching, pivoting the elbows etc. If that's what you're into, cool. It's not for me.
pgdave
yeah, and all your explanations make it just more clear that you don't know what is actually going on - which is fine, I don't think there's any issue with choosing to not get into something that you don't like. The problem is that you somehow think you understand it. This is like me saying "why would I watch nascar - it's just a bunch of left turns".
