We do not deserve dogs.

The dog kept waiting even after he (the dog, from the sentence structure) had passed away

Just look at the level of respect and the sense of reverence. We so do not deserve dogs. :'(

God is dog spelled backwards!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

So the dog's name was Hachi and the ko is added as a sort of honorific kind of like "duke"

A rare 1934 photo of Hachiko.

Okay.

Another good boi was Greyfriars Bobby. A skye terrier who stood by his master's, John Grays grave for 14 years. He has a statue in Edinburgh. Good dogs, both of 'em.

Iirc he was gray/white

Shut up, you're rying.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 8

Really? Going use this moment for a racist joke?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

That I admitted to crying over the death of a loyal dog? It's not racist, and it's not joke. I love dogs.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I thought you were going for an old racist joke. I apologize for assuming that and for accusing you of such a thing.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

they just typo'ed "crying", calm down

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

If that's the case I'll take my downvotes and apologize.

One of the few movies I have seen a few times, and now cannot watch because of the heartbreak it invokes. Everyone wishes for a connection this strong and devoted.

I've been fortunate to holiday twice in Japan and to this day the statue of Hachiko outside Shibuya Rail Station is "favourited" on my phone's map app. It was from this starting point my exploration of Japan always commenced.

I expected the dog would reply and voiced by Seinfeld

This damn movie! Philadelphia was the saddest movie I had seen until I saw this one.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I can't even think about it without getting a little choked up. The only other movie that can do that to me is Grave Of The Fireflies.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I must check that one out.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Prepare yourself. It's a great film, but I can't watch it again.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i watched the movie, the one with Richard Gere. I am only going to watch just that one time. Can not do it a second time.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I was literally down the street during much of the filming! Bristol Rhode Island!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought I might die watching that movie. I could not breathe from crying and literally felt my heart breaking. Sometimes when I feel dead inside I think about watching it again. But probably not.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale is legitimately one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. Just a grown man on the couch ugly crying

Nose and paws oily and shiny from continual pets I see.

I learned of that statue, and the story behind it, from its use as a go-to "meeting up" point for the characters from an anime series. https://youtu.be/EaIbQro_mbs (First appears at the 0:56 mark)

It really is. When I lived in Japan we used it as our meetup point in the area

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You also walk by it all the time in persona 5

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Theres also a statue in woonsocket r.i. cause a movie was filmed there

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

lol I was just gonna say that, that building is my office!

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Let me clarify, the literal train station is my office, well field office.

They had a custom made Japanese rugby shirt on him for the rugby World Cup. I have pictures somewhere but maximum effort to find one.

thats weird its only a minute on mine

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Apparently they "preserved his pelt" and taxidermied him. There's a weird fact I just learned.

2 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

“Hey Roy, where’s Trigger?”

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, he's listed as white too so I'm not sure why someone went to the trouble of colorizing the picture without, like... just looking this up first lol. They made him Shiba colored. Admittedly plenty of Akita Inu ARE red/cream but he was just white

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Well this is unsettling. I like the statue, but I don't like this. In my opinion, it lacks the respect the animal deserved.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

There are collections of full body human skins that are tanned and stretched over frames in Japan.

There could be a slightly different cultural opinion to taxidermy that we are not accustomed to.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel same. A bit disrespectful. Very disrespectful.😞

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

At least they did a good job of it. Not all taxidermied animals can say the same.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

No taxidermied animal say anything

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds like you have never seen an animatronic one, then.

My mom wanted to make our family’s late Corgi into a footstool after she died. I’m still not sure if she was totally kidding.
