Run Derby, run

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

that looks exhausting. almost feel bad for him having to work super hard for this

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So when he got around on wheels he was Roller Derby.

11 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

This is cool and inspirational and all, but I feel like they could've been made bigger so he wasn't so stoopy

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Every time I see humanity do something nice for an animal, I'm instantly in a good mood

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It doesn't look like they're tall enough though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Arctic breeds are the most tenacious dogs. I have a Karelian Bear Dog that can run through Blackberry brambles at near to full speed. PIMA

T-Rex dog.

BUT CAN HE TELL WHY KIDS LOVE CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH?!?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Yes, now he can

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD, HE SHALL BE NAMED T-REX

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's why animals are so much cooler then humans

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's so cool, not a lot of things genuinely warm my heart, but this is one of them.

11 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 3

run forrest run

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the owner should check out that irish vet on the telly he custom builds prosthetics for animals hes amazing

Doing Technology right!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

animals don't give a damn about disabilities. they just wanna have fun.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

OOOooooo 'mals just wanna have fuuUUUuuuuuUUun

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I kinda wish the loops were a bit taller. I dunno if it's just me, but I feel like his his upper body is down too low.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Go watch the video instead of making assumptions. The team working with him know what they're doing.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm not "assuming" anything, It's an opinion. I've already seen the video, and the prosthetic still looks too short. Don't be an ass.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The video clearly states why it's short. If you've seen it, you shouldn't need to comment about it. Yeesh.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Obviously. My point is that it just looks uncomfortable. I felt the results could be the same if the just made it normal sized. either --

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

way, quit making it such a big deal.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is very cool but shouldn't the prosthetics be a little bit taller? He looks to be slanted and kind of "elbow walking"

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was just going to ask this. I wonder if there's a reason for this because it seems like it would come with its own set of problems.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go watch the video on youtube. Answers your questions.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would spoil the hell out of that fella.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SO ADORABLE

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This is the beauty of 3d printing. Producing unique items for the smallest of problems. This is what it's about. Not that asshole with a gun

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But I'm just a lemon...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am a grocery bag. Hi!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Only a matter of time before he accidentally shoots his wife

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love this, but also wish it wasn't that special to see, i wish this kind of tech for disability was more easily available to everyone

11 years ago | Likes 1132 Dislikes 21

Give it 20-30 dog years

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not so much the inability to create such tech, it's that corporations will monopolise the Neuropozyne distribution.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I work at a specialty hospital and occasionally, a wheelie dog rolls by my office. This is scamp!!->> http://imgur.com/6eXG1J2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not that special to see. It's been on the front page at least half a dozen times.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

thanks to 3D printing it will be

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah basically what they said, with 3d printing it's very easily available now. It's just a matter of learning it. I'd learn it for my puppy

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Limba like that one dog in Full Metal Alchemist that has auto mail as well!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This doesn't seem that bad - just get a 3D printer and you can print your own woof woof saving appendages.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Advances in technology, especially for the disabled, are always special. I wish everything was perfect too, but it isn't.Take what you can.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's actually REALLY cheap to do this, we've done it many times in the non-mainstream media! Sauce: I work for the company that did this.

11 years ago | Likes 206 Dislikes 1

"why are we not funding this?" *peter* -family guy

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

good sir!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You guys hiring mechanical engineers? Always wanted to get into this kinda stuff....

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have any advice for manufacturing something like this at home? Like if I wanted to make prosthetics as a hobby?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think the materials we use are publically available.. W had to experiment a lot with different polymer blends in order to get 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So in essence, it's not really something you can do at home, but you can totally make prototypes! Just nothing feesibly useful IRL :(

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The correct type of prostetic for each animal/ human that the prostetic is for. 2/2 *we

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should do one of those posts things where you tell us about it!

11 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Non disclosure doesn't allow me to talk about things that aren't already public :(

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

What about some work stories? Work around the non-disclosure crap ;)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe talk to your boss and convince him youll tell it as a PR thing? Companies love free PR

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh don't worry, I won't disclose anything you tell me.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

3D printing is coming a long way, and it's moving FAST. I would legit be surprised if stuff like this didn't start hitting markets every...

11 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

...where throughout the world within the next few years, because 3D printing is ALSO getting really inexpensive.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Materials are not cheap and probably never will be. 3D printing has also existed for 30 years or so, it's just finally getting good!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you can purchase a Kilo of the filament for like 30 bucks man. Ya, the better the quality the more it costs but that's everything in life

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The cheap stuff doesn't do much other than let you play around. Trust me, I know all about this stuff first hand

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Youd think that, but then you have to remember: basic computer ink is more expensive than human blood. Think about 3d plastic costs

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if i told you that printer ink isn't so expensive becasue of the materials its made of?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About 30 bucks for a kilo of the filament. The powders are more expensive, but you can print resolutions higher than the human eye can see

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PBS ran a show last week all about animals with prosthetic help. Golden Retriever was on with very similar rig.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, it's probably available to everyone due to 3D printing. Other factors might limit the use.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can see the determination in his face.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder if dogs have a concept of being different to other dogs. Like, does he even know his legs are not supposed to look like that?

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I would love to know it, too

I am really sick of this stereotype shit portion filled up with horse cum of a comment that is posted on every single dog post.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Are you that desperate for attention that you come up with this canned type of comment or do you really think it is funny anymore?

Derby got no time for your pity. Derby got Derby things to do.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I must doge

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dog got stuff to smell. No time for disabilities.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I don't know why, but in my head that was in Mr. T's voice.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Really gonna get the thing now!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Really bugs me that the rings are not big enough for a comfortable gait

11 years ago | Likes 1389 Dislikes 58

And wider so they don't go all cockeyed.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably to help him get used to it

11 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 1

If they're any bigger, he might not be able to balance on them.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

These are the first model and they're short because he's used to running on his nubs. Slowly they are going to raise them.

11 years ago | Likes 195 Dislikes 0

In the video they said they're starting him with these and he will gradually get taller ones as he gets used to them.

11 years ago | Likes 1256 Dislikes 0

Also, this gif is pretty slowed down. He seems fairly comfortable, even with the short ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRmoowIN8aY

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yes! So his spine can adjust comfortably to being normal again :)

11 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 1

That's good to know! Thank you @doctorbees! I love you :D

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you, I was irked too.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Thanks for adding this.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*sigh of relief*

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm sure it bugs you that they're giving a disabled dog the gift of walking

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

As opposed to his inability to move?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I wish his shoulders were even with his hips while running.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

They only used these short ones to help him get used to running. They said they'll work him up bigger ones once he's more comfortable.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Derby is probably in taller ones now since this was posted a while ago

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It would be like putting 9" heels on someone that's only ever worn sneakers and expecting them to run. Gotta work your way up, yo.

11 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Im sure the dog prefers it to not being able to walk

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

This might sound silly, but do his little elbows hurt from running in those things all day? Like, from the pressure he's putting on them

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really bugs me that you assume the engineer and vet working with him didn't have a plan for this.

11 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 18

You forget that rando-internet-dude is always smarter than the people who are being paid to do these jobs.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 5

Derby then proceeded to shoot his beautiful golden retriever wife while she was shitting behind a closed fence door

11 years ago | Likes 199 Dislikes 6

i am curious... did you deliberately choose not to say gate in favor of fence door, or...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nice.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0
