Pretty rare to hear Tom Hanks drop an F bomb

If you ever want to see early Tom Hanks in a more serious role (one you probably haven't seen) then check out Every Time We Say Goodbye,

Ive been to that park in Savannah

I remember he did an interview with Siskel and Ebert as part of some anniversary of that show in the 90s, and Hanks recalled waiting with tension to see their review of Spash! He recalled watching it as one of them panned it, and then the other also panned it. "All I'm saying is it stung." https://youtu.be/YrRC-byAI-Y?si=Em0zPopf7811KNJJ&t=725

Is that last bit about the origin of the name? Was that in the movie?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the origin of the name - Nathan Bedford Forrest, but they did not use that shot and used a different recording for the dialogue.

The right tries so hard to slander Tom Hanks. At every turn one of them puts out another trash "This happened in his history!" videos and if you actually look into it? Nothing happened like they said if it did happen at all. Tom Hanks is a gem.

T Hanks

That poor man having to deal with that much dialogue and have it get cut to a fourth of what they made him say!

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He was Big way before that.

I need more impressions from Tom Hanks

Forrest Gump is in my top 10 list of favorite movies.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Me too. So is The DaVincci Code and Angel's and Demons. I have not seen the third one and dont know if I should. People say it sucked like a timeliness that went on too far, they should have kept it at 2 movies. Idk. You've Got Mail is cute.

If it was Mazes and Monsters he was right.

Some of his early movies were had a different audience than his later ones. I got banned from getting to pick the movie for "Friends over for movie night" - The film, was "Joe vs the Volcano" I still like it.

"...after Forrest Gump failed to take in even $600M; Tom, you bounced back with Saving Private Ryan, which unfortunately stalled around $300M..."

Road to Perdition was a great movie

The Burbs was his defining moment.

The fact I had to get this far down in the comments before someone mentioned The Burbs is criminal.

I like Tom hanks personally & professionally, but i am one of those who did not like Forrest Gump

2 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Same.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I didn't hate it. I didn't get the hype though. It's more interesting to watch people react to it.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Did you watch it when it came out? It was definitely /a different time/

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed. It is cornball boomer wankery

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

I enjoyed it. What trips me out now is how much hate some dudes seem to have for Jenny.

2 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Any excuse to hate a woman.

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

First time I watched it I was a kid. I didn't understand what Jenny was going through. I didn't hate Jenny but I didn't really like her, either. As an adult, I finally understood her character arc and how tragic it was.

I kinda wonder if the story was intentionally told in a way that Forest might see it. Just vague enough to not fully grasp the extent of how her father scarred her. He definitely didn't understand why she kept her distance.

I was well into adulthood by the time I saw it. At the time, it did seem like she was taking advantage of the friendship, but honestly, it's obvious the cards were stacked against her.

At least we finally know what really made her sick: Splashing through the reflecting pool in DC. /s

Joe vs the Volcano is the greatest movie ever made. I’ll fight you over it.

The best of the Tom Hanks x Meg Ryan, Meg Ryan, and Meg Ryan movies

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I am not arguing that with you!

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It was on pretty much every Sunday on some channel growing up, my parents would have friends over and sit on the front porch getting wasted and have cheese and crackers, I’d take half the tray and watch Joe vs the volcano, stuff my face with ritz and probably eat half a pound of cheese, good times

It's underrated imho, but I don't know if allegories are that popular these days. Is The Odyssey considered an allegory?

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It definitely has that as a base. But honestly. It’s about living life to the fullest and remembering we are insignificant in the long run so be grateful for today. And some points in your life you supposed to be alone. Some doors you walk through by yourself.

Isn't this the moral of all the great stories?

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My parents took me to see it for my 9th birthday. I still remember what a good time I had watching it for the first time :)

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There will be blood. Hands down

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I won't fight you over it, but David S Pumpkins might have a thing or three to say about that.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

lol. Thats amazing. If it was a full length motion picture it would be in the running. All of his work is great.

Joe Vs. The Volcano is a masterpiece. Absolutely amazing movie.

2 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

When Joe thanks the moon. It's intense & felt true. WE ARE KEEPING THIS LUGGAGE.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Him thanking the moon propelled this movie from one of my top 100 to my statement of it being the greatest one I’ve ever seen.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was POWERFUL acting, and inspired writing. I am still affected right now, typing these words. A truly great moment of cinema. :)

I saw that movie nearly 40 years ago and this whole scene is *still* imprinted on my memory, especially the laugh at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CJ9EDtZ2p8
