HELP FIND MY DIREWOLF!!

NORTHERN VIRGINIA IMGURIANS! I know this will probably die in usersub, but MY DOG IS LOST! (okay, he's really my girlfriend's dog, but still). We're in McLean, VA, so if you know anyone in the area PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show them this post! If you've seen this dog, PLEASE INBOX ME!

IF YOU FIND ROCKY: Rocky is not mean, but he IS SHY. The best way to try to get him to come is with food, and then to gently put your fingers through his collar when he comes near to grab the food. My girlfriend's phone number and address are on his tags. PLEASE CALL US IF YOU FIND HIM.

IF YOU LIVE IN THE AREA: Please please please check around your property. Since NOBODY has called to say they've seen him since Saturday, we are worried he may be injured and / or hiding out somewhere. We can check on public roads and front yards, but it's more difficult to look in fenced parts of people's property.

Yesterday evening while my girlfriend's dad was walking Rocky, he put the leash down and stopped to take a picture near the intersection of Linway Terrace and Old Dominion Drive, and Rocky started chasing after an SUV. His leash became tangled in the wheel of the car and the leash came unhooked somehow. We're hoping he's not injured badly, but he ran off, terrified. My GFs dad tried to chase but wasn't able to catch him. If you know the area, it seemed like he was running up Twisting Tree Lane, right on Madison Court, and then over towards Oakview Drive and Forest Villa Lane, where some neighbors reported seeing him.

Vital Information:
NAME: Rocky
AGE: ~6 years old
WEIGHT: 35 LBS
BREED: CATTLE DOG mix
COLOR: WHITE with a LARGE BROWN SPOT over his RIGHT EYE AND EAR, LARGE BROWN SPOT OVER HIS LEFT EAR, and SMALL BROWN SPOTS ALL OVER

Rocky is microchipped and was lost with his collar and tags on.

More pictures below...

UPDATE: THANK YOU ALL for getting this in front of the right people! I've seen a bunch of comments and DMs from people who live / work in the area, keeping an eye out for him. We haven't heard of any sightings yet, but I will keep you guys updated!

UPDATE 2 [8PM 2/23] : We haven't received any calls or heard of any sightings yet. WE'RE NOT GIVING UP HOPE! PLEASE keep your eyes peeled. We know he'll get hungry eventually and need to find food and water. His crate and water are out near where he was lost, with his bed and blanket. Thank you all and PLEASE KEEP LOOKING!

UPDATE 3 [9:41PM 2/23]: GFs DAD HAS ROCKY. INTERNET REJOICE!!!! Will update with more details when they are available. Thank you everyone for helping bring Rocky home! Will post pics also when I get them!

UPDATE 4 [10:25PM 2/23]: Rocky is safely back home. He has a slight limp, but he seems to be doing alright. He'll be making a trip to the vet tomorrow to make sure that it's nothing serious. He was spotted less than a mile away from his house, playing with another dog. He ran off when the neighbor came out to see what was going on, but she called GFs dad who came over and managed to lure him back!

I am incredibly appreciative of the community that came together around our search for Rocky. I have been hoping with all my hope that Rocky would return to us safely. I fully attribute his homecoming to the kindness and generosity of those who read this post, shared it with those who they knew were in a position to look out for him, and looked out for him themselves. You brought Rocky home!! This is the best ending we could have asked for!

UPDATE 5 [10:28AM 2/24]: Bonus gallery if you wanna see more Rocky! http://imgur.com/gallery/QTUN5/new

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh yee of little faith. Imgur would never let a lost dog post die in usersub.

11 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Who knew!? The lost dog tag has like 30 pictures so I figured it's not something people do around here, but I am eternally grateful!

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Good luck OP.

Make sure to post fliers. My cat was missing for a month and I had covered the interwebs with posts about him, but had no real leads (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I got a text from an exchange student who saw the flier I put at the Asian Grocer and they'd had him the whole time but did not internet (2)

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

THANK YOU! We were thinking he could be in Pimmit Bend park, but have looked there a couple times already. it's possible though? Please 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Let us know if you spot anything!! Have you seen the flyers in the neighborhood? 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as somebody nowhere near Virginia all i have to help with is my one upvote, but it's yours!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

OP have you tried calling the cops? My beagle used to run away all the time and when in highways people call about distress on road so 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 2

I thought that said bagel

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

try giving them a call. Fairfax and Loudoun cops are cool sometimes. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

Fairfax cops are never effing cool! They're dicks. All of em!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah they're pretty chill in Fairfax City lol

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Loudoun cops are way more chill.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! We called animal control (which is part of the police here I think, correct me if I'm wrong), and plan to continue calling for updates.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Yes! Just make sure to tell them it will never happen again or they'll put your dog on "parole." Nova animal control is kind of a bitch

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Oh jeez...okay yeah hopefully they will let us retrieve him without too much issue. We are planning to get a GPS collar after this.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah, some shelter dogs come with microchips already. I hope you find your bud. Good luck!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

North Carolina reporting in. Unlikely he'll turn up down here but in the off chance a god damn miracle goes down I'll keep my eyes open.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Is he chipped? I will keep a look out. I frequent dog parks in NoVA and people hang lost dog photos. This is near and dear to me. Good luck

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Thank you! He IS chipped. We don't frequent the NoVA dog parks that often because rocky can get snippy with other dogs.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I how you find him quickly

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pro tip: Check all local vet clinics. We get a lot of lost pets.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We are doing our best to call all the local clinics.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have posted and losts of people have shared it from the area they also suggested that you post to the lost and and found pets of 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

northern VA. I hope you find him. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I think you're referring to the Facebook group. We did make a post for him yesterday afternoon (the 22nd).

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh oh oh! I remember something on Imgur. Take his bed or a piece of where he sleeps, place it where he disappeared and he will return. (1)

11 years ago | Likes 714 Dislikes 4

Also he's got herding breeds in him, so make sure to alert ANYONE in the area who may have small animals or livestock that he might bother.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That worked for someone in my area recently, took 10 days but ultimately she found her curled up on the blanket she left out

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was by far the happiest moment in both of our lives (I'm assuming, I don't speak dog that well so I can't confirm for her). Good luck!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And leave water.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can confirm as someone with a lot of hunting dogs i do exactly this. I can lose them to up to a week without concern

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It may have been something of yours like a shirt and checking back. Worthwhile googling to confirm.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Can this actually work, this is awesome. Dogs are amazing with their sense of smell huh

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine out with a handful of Doritos next to her bed. Came back the next day (as I had done for a week) and found her asleep on my shirt. 2/?

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

AND WATER BUT NOT FOOD! .... That might help until it freezes.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Comment just in case there's a need for future use.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, I couldn't find it so I went off memory. Thanks for sharing!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ALSO ARTICLES OF YOUR CLOTHING!!! My lab got lost once upon a time, and after leaving her bedding out with no luck, I left a t-shirt of 1/?

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We are leaving some dirty clothes out there soon I think.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's great bud but next time reply to your own comment if it is more than 140 characters. Or it might not appear serial wise.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I tried but it won't let me do it on mobile without refreshing the page between my comment. I numbered them to try to help withfluidity tho

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or somebody found/stole him. A dog that beautiful, my guess is the latter. :(

11 years ago | Likes 223 Dislikes 14

Thank you! The bedding is out, with a blanket and food. Fingers crossed someone wouldn't steal him....there are a lot of dog people in 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 0

No no food, it may attract animals dog avoids.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't think you're supposed to put food out, it attracts other animals that might scare him off, just a bowl of water. hope he comes back :)

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Take away the food as it will attract wild animals that may scare him off. Just water

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've heard that you should leave water but no food. the food will attract other animals that may scare him off.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the neighborhood who know him so we're hoping someone wouldn't be able to get away with that. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 0

Best of luck OP! I really really hope you find him! Best of luck!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Food attracts predators, he won't starve any time soon but will dehydrate - lots of water should be left out, but absolutely no food.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This, that was an important note in what noob3rts saw, if it was the same as what I saw.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

chuck some dirty clothes of yours and/or your gf's on there too. maybe not the food though, it'll attract other animals

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I don't know what I would do if I ever lost my dogs. We must get this to the front page immediately!

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It is **heart wrenching.** We are looking into GPS collars after this incident, and of course, GF and I know not to let him off leash 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But if you have any suggestions on tracking devices or anything, please let em fly!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He's beautiful. I hope you find him.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Thank you!! We are searching and trying to post everywhere we can.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If you're upvoting to get us to the front page, A THOUSAND TIMES THANK YOU. Trying to get this in front of as many eyes as possible!

11 years ago | Likes 800 Dislikes 16

Please update when you find him!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i hope you'll find your dog

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope you find him soon OP

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm nearby in Reston. I'll keep my eyes open

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Hoping he hasn't made it that far but every set of eyes helps!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Posted to twitter, good luck buddy.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I didn't even think of that!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hope you find your puppy OP :(

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in NoVA and I'll definitely keep an eye out for him. You're best off doing the whole familiar scent thing though. Good Luck!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We put out his crate and a blanket and some food, so we're hoping he'll find them!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hope you get your dog back OP, he is magnificent

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My parents live off of Old Dominion. I'll tell them to keep an eye out for Rocky. Good luck, OP!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Really appreciate it! Sounds like they're very close to where he got lost.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OP as he seems like the type to run, investigate FB to see if there are missing pets pages for your area. There are where I live and 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I and most veterinary staff and good people in the area subscribe and share to find the missing critters.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please keep us updated and let us know if/when he is found OP. Thanks. Hopefully this handsome boy will come home soon.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im in Arlington OP, keeping my eyes open!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We are hoping he turns up soon in one of the surrounding suburbs!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hope you find him OP.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just please don't say "this will probably die in usersub". Please don't.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always willing to help get something like this , to this mythical front page .

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Camo is effective

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You got him back?! WOOOHOOO!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good ol' Shelob's gonna take good care of you +1

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The best way to do is to place Rocky's bedding/toys/towel or your gf sweater, etc at the place where Rocky ran off. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

they have incredible sense of smell and would be able to find the spot. Just come back in a day, hopefully you will find him waiting there

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We've got his crate, a blanket, and some food out there for him. Hoping he shows up! Thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you guys! We are hoping he hasn't traveled that far, but every set of eyes helps. Thank you!!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in Fairfax keeping an eye out! hope you find him!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chances are he hasn't wandered that far from where he was lost. Try going back to the area with food/water and some of your worn clothes 1/?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We've got his crate and a little food and a blanket out for him.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put it in a nice secluded area and keep checking back there regularly. He's most likely still wandering nearby and will smell the items 2/?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And decide to hang out near your comforting scent. If he's got a kennel at home, I would bring it and leave it too. Hope you find him 3/3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're all heroes! If anyone has tips about where we should be looking for him, PLEASE DM me!

11 years ago | Likes 206 Dislikes 6

I live near McLean and as a dog owner myself I know what you must be going through. I'll be sure to keep an eye out.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here in VT we have a Facebook page for lost/found animals. Maybe VA has something similar.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the suggestion! We do have a similar group for VA, which his picture and info were posted to this morning.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

good luck, and just be patient. is there a peeta presence in your area. if yes be wary of them

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My boyfriend lives in Chesapeake, I hope he doesn't wander the far but I'm letting him know just in case!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We're hoping he doesn't get that far either, but any eyes are appreciated!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

also put food in places near here you lost him you may pick up his tracks or one story on here pup was aiting next to food when they camebak

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I work in Tysons, will def let people know to keep an eye out

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The shelters. Start there. His collar may have come off.

11 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Yes! We have a pretty good list of local vets and shelters from the microchip company (also notified). Thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

It's the least I can do at 11pm from 1600ish miles away.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Also annoyingly local animal control is not open until Tuesday....we are really hoping he'll be indoors by then as it's supposed to 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

get really cold tomorrow night 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Does PETA operate in your area? That would be my biggest concern. I hate to say it but if they picked him up, he's most likely been put down

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

It's a good question, to which I'm not sure how to find an answer. We have only dealt with animal control before, who have been helpful.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Put down his dog bed or whatever he sleeps on where he was last seen with a bowl of water and an info flyer next to it so people know why...

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Its all there and can help look for him

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0
